Max, a jaded and neglected ten year old that was sent to a summer camp for two and a half months by parents that didnt want to deal with him anymore. The day summer ended came as quick as when it started and before he knew it he was saying goodbye to his friends and packing up his stuff. As he watched Nikkis car pull up Neil having left an hour ago he sighed letting go of his green haired friend for the last time "see ya next summer Nik..." He muttered hands in his hood pockets. Nikki smiled "see ya Max!" She said, hugged him, let go and sped over to Candy. Max watched the car drive away and he left towards his tent, sitting down on the cot now the only camper left, he looked back at where Nikki and Neil slept, two empty cots that used to have people on them, people he used to say goodnight too and go on wild adventures, he grumbled and shouted a swear throwing the pillow against the tent wall, then curled up and cried. He missed his friends. He didnt want to go back to that god forsaken household. He hugged Mr.Honeynuts close to his small frame anticipating the red hair and green eyes of his peppy go-lucky camp counselor but they never showed up, he screamed and cried until his throat was sore and his eyes were glued shut. He was waken up at nine thirty with the red-head known as David shaking him awake, the counselor sighed in relief when Max's mint eyes opened "oh thank gosh darn heck i thought something happened to you!" He said hand on the boys shoulder. Max rolled his eyes swatting Davids hand away "im fine camp man" he growled and turned around on his cot facing the wall.

Me and Gwen had been making phone calls to Max's parents all day and they still have yet to answer. I hope nothing bad happened! I was in the middle of calling Max's parents for the sixth or seventh time when Max started screaming and I put the phone aside to check up on the boy. To my relief he was fine and acting like normal Max, i heard Gwen shouting "one sec Maxy" I smiled and I couldve swore I saw Max smile a bit too. My heart melted. I climbed out of the tent, having to hunch down because it was so small, sometimes being talls inconvenient, I saw Gwen red-faced, shouting at someone over the phone. I gulped "l-let me take it?" I said, it sounded more like a question. Gwen handed the phone to me with a grunt of disgust and I started talking, what the person said on the other line was shocking. The call ended before i got a chance to reply "they just..neglected Max...?" I looked at the flashing screen of the phone and back at Max's tent. They had put Max up for adoption. I inhaled so much anger boiling inside me that i couldve cracked the phone in half. I couldn't tell Max he'd be heart broke- "they what?" Max looked up at me with broken eyes and i stared back. Max clenched his fists his eyes glazing over in tears and he imediantly tilted his head down and tried to wipe them away with his sleeve. I knealed down and offered the boy a hug, he accepted it
"Its gonna get better bud, i promise"
