" oh my god, do you see that guy?! " jessica, one of delaney best friends says
" where? " delaney's other best friend, serenity says
" right in front of us! " jessica whispers excitedly, as the three girls get closer to this guy

the girls had just come back from summer break, and they were finally seniors.
they were on their way to their first period when jessica pointed out this guy

" hi, i'm jessica " jessica says as the girls approach the boy

here's some background information on the girls;
jessica or jess was a huge flirt, and everyone knew it.
she never really "settled down" or committed unless she really liked the guy, which most times she doesn't
serenity, aka reny or ren was somewhat quiet, just as delaney is. but when it comes to serenity, delaney and jessica don't have to worry about fighting over boys, since serenity came out as gay in their sophomore year, in which she was gladly accepted
delaney, who also goes by del is the quietest of the three girls. she's never been in a real relationship, not that she's ever really wanted one, but when she does jess seems to come in the way and flirt with the guy of her interest, but she doesn't do it on purpose, right? jess has kept del under her wing since freshman year. del was like jessica's wing girl, whenever jessica was flirting with someone and del conversed with that person, she made sure to talk highly of jessica

" hey i'm shawn, and i'm new here. do you guys know where room 214 is? " the boy asks
" isn't that where your first period class is, del? " serenity says, elbowing delaney
delaney immediately gives wide eyes to serenity
" what are you doing?? " she mouths to serenity
" it's senior year. get yourself a man " serenity smiles, causing delaney to smile
" anyways " jessica coughs
jessica opened her mouth to speak, but the bell cut her off
" we better head to class, jess. delaney can walk shawn to class since they're in the same class " serenity says to her friend
" no, that's okay, i'll walk with them " jessica gives serenity a smile
serenity drops her shoulders before walking off

delaney sighs, looking down at her feet while her, jess and the boy now known as shawn walk to room 214
" so, shawn. where did you move here from? " jessica asks
" canada, actually. we moved because of my dads job, but it's fine because the college i applied to is in los angelos anyway " shawn replies, scratching the back of his neck
" that's cool. i've always- " jessica begins but shawn is quick to cut her off
" your name is delaney, right? " shawn asks delaney
delaney, not knowing what to do or say, can only nod
" she's shy, and doesn't talk much " jessica says
delaney can only nod again, because what she said was true and because she knew she wanted shawn's attention, and delaney didn't want to jeopardize that for jessica
" i'm sure that'll change " shawn says, causing delaney to blush
" doubt it " jessica mutters
" anyways, here's your class. ill be back here once this period is over so i can walk you to your next class " jessica smiles at shawn
" that's not necessary, i'm sure i'll be fine. but thank you, though " shawn says to jessica
jessica huffs, before walking in the direction of her own class

delaney sits in the very back of her english class, unaware that shawn sat next to her
" so, not much of a talker? " shawn asks the girl, which she replies with a shrug
" it may not seem like it, but jessica helped me break out of my shell " the girl says quietly, as she spoke straight lies
" she's been my friend for as long as i remember, and don't know what i would do without her " delaney continues to speak
" i'm sure you'd be fine " shawn shrugs at the girls words, which immediately draws in delaney's attention
" what? " she asks
" you'd probably be fine. i mean, you have your other friend, right? and besides, who cares if you're shy, you're not affecting anyone's life or anything like that " shawn replies

delaney has never been in this type of situation where the boy disagrees with her sweet talk of jessica

" but-but still. jess is one of my best friends. i love her, and seriously don't know what i would do without her. " delaney stutters
shawn laughs
" if you say so " shawn shrugs
" she's really pretty too! you guys would make a cute couple. want her number? " delaney rushes out, getting very nervous
she didn't want to mess this up for jessica
" what are you doing? " shawn asks laughing
" i'm not doing anything " delaney says, slumping back into her seat
" if that's what helps you sleep at night, then sure " shawn says, before the teacher starts the lesson
