Melissa POV
I took a long sip of the iced coffee on my table and sighed deeply. I was back to the regular pain and toil but today felt a bit different.
The workload seemed almost non-existent compared to other days and Carl had taken a leave today for whatever reason. It was a rather flimsy excuse he gave for his absence but I wasn’t ready to question him any further.
Whatever true reason he had, it had to be an extremely good one considering he wasn’t one to casually slack off.
However, the major shift from the normal was Anthony.
The mere thought of him was enough to send chills down my spine. We had taken 2 days off at the cabin and he basically deprived me of rest. I could still recall every single detail, how quickly he switched up from the gentle tempo he began to make me adjust to his size, to a rougher, sheet gripping one. There were times in between he’d ask me if I was alright and then go right to tearing apart my body and soul.
‘’ Melissa, Melissa!” I suddenly heard someone call out my name, interrupting me from my surreptitious thoughts and I almost jumped out of my chair.
The middle-aged woman stared at me with a concerned stance but the look on her face read way different from her posture.
‘’Mrs Potter! Hello, I did not see you there!” I exclaimed embarrassingly and tries to act normal but the knowing glimmer on her face was enough to tell me I had been caught.
‘’I see you two enjoyed your days off.’’ She slyly remarked and I felt like crawling into a hole.
I cleared my throat and gestured for her to take a seat. She sat down, still keeping that annoying look on her face and I decided to ignore her till she got tired of it.
‘’Is there a reason why Anthony’s taking another day off? Hopefully you two didn’t get a bit too excited” She asked me as she relaxed in the swivel seat and I shook my head in confusion.
I tried not to cringe visibly at her snarky remarks.
Unlike every other morning, Anthony didn’t come knocking on my door with a bowl of cereal whilst asking me if I was ready. Everything seemed rather odd but I decided not to let my thoughts run free and assume preposterous things.
Maybe today was just one of those days and if something was wrong, I was sure he’d let me know....right?
"Maybe he has some crucial matters he needs to take care of.Perhaps, you know something?” I inquired from her and she shrugged lightly then shook her head.
"What I do know, Mrs. Ramirez is that we have to pick up an order ’’ she said out of the blue and my brows scrunched in confusion.
"An order?”
She nodded to affirm her statement and rose from her seat.
"Anthony ordered some supplies a few weeks ago but apparently our delivery guy came down with the flu. Knowing how cranky your husband can be when things aren’t in order, I deemed it best we went ourselves ’’ She filled me in.
I tried to recall an order of that sort but nothing was coming to memory.
How come he didn’t mention anything about an order?
I looked up from my laptop to find Mrs. Potter still staring at me, expecting me to hurriedly get up.
"I don’t mean to be rude or anything but can’t one person get the order. Who’s going to supervise things around here if both of us are away?” I asked her and her lips pursed into a thin line, a soft ‘hmm’ sounding in the room.
