Chapter Two: Unexpected
"It's so cold." Taeil muttered to himself as he pulled his coat tightly around his arms. He scanned the area silently, seeing as the tall lamp post lighting up the dark streets.
He took a deep breath of the fresh air and continued walking down the sidewalk. A plastic bag hanging from his left forearm containing a pint of ice cream. He didn't care how cold it was for ice cream. He just wanted to watching some Disney movies and eat ice cream.
He continued along the pathway in the direction of his home. The streets quiet as usual, around where he lived barely anyone walked the streets at this time.
Taeil kicked a rock around silently, it eventually landing in the grass of a place he never goes to anymore. Taeil sighed and looked up from the rock to the park. Like a movie scene, Taeil replayed the event in his head.
Taeil thought he would have by now gotten over everything but still he misses his friend and childhood. His childhood never returned the same after the kidnapping of his friend.
His parents suddenly started being super intrusive and constantly wanted to know what he was doing and what he wanted to do. He knew they just wanted to make him feel better and make sure he was okay but, everything felt off.
Taeil blinked back the tears he felt building up and continued his way home. His home being in the same neighborhood as the one he lived in as a kid. He walked the last block silently his mind filled with thoughts of that day.
As he was about to turn into his yard he heard footsteps behind him on the road. The footsteps were moving at a quick pace. He instantly thought the worst and rushed up into his yard. Taeil quickly stepped up his stairs to his tiny house and started to pull his keys out.
He fumbled a bit since he was filled with fear. He pushed the key into the lock and began turning it, that was until someone grabbed his hand and turn him around.
"Taeil." The person said looking down at Taeil. Upon seeing the strangers face Taeil froze. "Joh-" Taeil let his mouth fall open. The fear now replaced by confusion and just so much emotion.
Johnny let out a small laugh. "You sure get scared eas-"
"Shut up." Taeil added still in shock, se tears welling up. "What? Why do I have to shut up?" Johnny looked at Taeil confused.
"How are you here right now?" He asked stepping back pressing up against his door. Johnny taking notice of how uncomfortable he looked. "I walked here." Johnny answered with sarcastic tone in his voice trying to make the situation seem less weird.
"No. you know what I mean. How did you get away?" He tried asking, not trying to trigger some type of trauma in Johnny. "I didn't." Johnny simply, muttering something that sounded like. 'at least not yet.'
Johnny then move his hand towards taeil and wiping away a tear that had started to fall. Taeil hadn't noticed the tears began to flow.
Once Johnny pulled his hand back, Taeil used his sleeves to wipe his eyes again. "What do you mean by that?" Taeil asked again. "It better to not ask questions Taeil." Johnny continued to be very vague with everything.
"Just-" Johnny began and grabbed Taeils arm and pulled him in. Taeil stood there in Johnny's arm and timidly hugged back. Taeil wanted to more but he would question more for now. He let some more tears fall as he pushed his face into Johnny shoulder.
Johnny smiled and rubbed his short friend's back softly. Taeil picked his head up and felt the freezing air against his cheeks. "hey, you want to go inside? it's kinda cold." Taeil began.
He knew he really shouldn't be inviting Johnny in as he doesnt know what kind of person Johnny is now but, he just couldn't let him leave. Johnny nodded and followed Taeil into the little house.
Taeil shrugged his coat off and tossed it on the coat hanger and switched the lights on turning back and shutting the door behind them. Once the light was back on Taeil stared up at Johnny comparing the difference since the last time he seen him.
Johnny's jaw line had become more prominent and his chubby cheeks weren't as chubby. His childlike features were mostly gone, as its suppose to by this age. Johnny on the other hand felt a surge of awkwardness fill the room as the shorter male stared at his face.
He cleared his throat trying to snap Taeil back into reality. "Sorry." Taeil apologized right away and kicked his shoes off and placed them neatly next to the door, Johnny does the same assuming Taeil doesnt want dirt in his home.
"Want some coffee?" Taeil asked walking into the kitchen and opening the freezer and putting his ice cream away. Johnny following taking moment to look at the kitchen window. "Yeah, thanks." He answerd Taeil's question.
Taeil looked at Johnny confused and he started brewing the coffee. "Everything okay?" He asked, starting to become wary of the situation with his friend. Johnny nodded and moved from the window and sat down.
Taeil joining him. Taeil opened his mouth to say something before Johnny stopped him. "No more questions." Taeil gave him a look.
"Okay first of all. I'm older so watch your tone and second of all, I think I'm entitled to ask some questions. Johnny it's not like I'm not super happy to see you again. I am! I just want to know if your safe." Taeil explained his feeling. Johnny nodded understanding and leaned back in the chair.
"You may be older but I'm taller," Johnny joked with a small smile. "and you dont have worry about me Taeil. I'm not as helpless as before." Johnny told him. Taeil sighed and stood up getting the coffee and returning.
"How did you know where I lived?" Taeil asked sliding a cup of coffee towards him. "I followed you." Johnny answered honestly, taking a sip.
Tae blinked and looked to the side. "Oh." He answered putting his hands in his lap. Johnny took a few sips before looking at the time. "I actually gotta go-"
Taeil gave him a look of confusion. "Leave?" Taeil stood up with Johnny. "You weren't even here that long." Taeil told him following his to the door.
Johnny turn to him. "Tomorrow at the park, at 8pm. Meet me there." Taeil was confused on why so late but nodded slowly. Johnny grabbed Taeil hand. "I promise I'll explain everything." He stared down at Taeil before letting himself out and scurrying away from Taeil house before someone sees him.
Taeil watched him leave from the window. Taeil turned away shutting the curtains and looked away back at the cup Johnny was using. He thought back at the way Johnny looked and felt his face redden.
what? no. stop.
He told himself, there was no way he was even gonna think about how good looking Johnny was. They are best friends.
Taeil moved on back to the subject of wandering what Johnny was gonna tell him.
'I'll just have to wait till tomorrow' He thought to himself and then returned to his original plans, the thoughts of Johnny still sitting in his mind.
