Chapter Four:Johnny doesn't seem like he's one to keep his word. Johnny said he was going to come over again but almost a week had passed and nothing. He basically ghosted him.
"Taeil, what's with all this spacing out recently?" Jaehyun asked, snapping the older male out of his thoughts. He sat down on the chair across Taeil, placing his drink in front of his friend. "It's nothing. Just thoughts I guess." Taeil answered him wrapping his hand around his hot coffee, blowing at it to cool it down. "Stop lying. I can tell when you're lying." Jaehyun informed his friend. They've been close friends since middle school. Of course they would be able to read each other's body language.
Taeil remained silent after Jaehyun continued to try and pry into his friends thoughts and feelings. "Is it because of that guy? the one you had a hookup with? what was his name...Jack? Jerry? I don't know something English like that." Jaehyun rambled on. Taeil smiled a bit at Jaehyun's attempt to guess his friends name. "Johnny. His name is Johnny." Taeil corrected him with a small smile. "Also we didn't hookup, stop pushing that narrative." Taeil said sternly.
Jaehyun picked up his hands defensively. "Wow okay, didnt mean to hit a nerve there but, I'm just want to know what's going on with you. You're not acting your usual self since that night with that guy. It only makes sense that he has something to do with it." He said taking a sip of his own drink. Taeil shrugged and looked down at his drink. "It is cause of him but, it's not because of what you're thinking." Taeil admitted finally opening up.
"Its just- he just doesn't keep his word. Its bugs me. First we were supposed to meet at the park. Does that happen? No, he crawls into my window at 1 am and thinks it's all normal. Then he says he'd come at a normal time the next day but this time doesn't show up at all. Still hasn't actually." He said laying his thoughts on the table, wanting Jaehyun help to make him feel better. Jaehyun sighed a bit looking at the confused but sad expression on his best friends face.
"So he must be very important to you. I mean why else would you be fretting about him not showing up and or arriving late to meetings with you." Jaehyun said, looking at his best friend curiously. "He does." Taeil said quietly tapping his index finger on his cup nervously. "I was very close to him when I was younger and maybe I had a slight crush on him but, it's not that I like him now," Taeil was quick to add that last part. "I just miss that sorta I don't know what to call it but, just being near him again is nice." Taeil said, again sharing all his feeling with his friend.
Jaehyun nodded. "I understand. Did something happen that caused a falling out back then? Maybe he's having second thoughts about reconnecting with you?" Jaehyun question wanting to know more to help. Taeil shook his head, looking up from his drink. "No. It was..a...forced separation." Taeil said, not really wanting to think back on the memory. Jaehyun just nodded slowly. He recognized the tone in Taeil voice and assumed it was probably something Taeil didnt want to go into conversation about so, he left it alone.
"Well don't think about it to much. Maybe he just is worried or something. We can never tell what's going on in other people's heads or lives. Just be patient. Everything will fall into place if it was meant for you guys to reconnect," Jaehyun smiled at his friend. "Now drink your coffee before it gets cold and then you complain for another one." Jaehyun teased the older. Taeil rolled his eyes as the two sat in comfortable silence and finishing up there drinks.
Taeil thought back on Jaehyuns speech about them eventually meeting again. He knew Jaehyun was right but his mind couldn't help but linger on the thoughts of Johnny just ghosting him for no actual reason. As if it was some dramatic movie moment Taeil found himself walking into their old childhood playground. It looked different from when he was younger. He remembered it being so vibrant with color and just filled with children playing and having fun. Now it's just empty, dark and extremely quiet.
He walked up to the monkey bars and held onto the pole, examining it. He stared at the rusted spots of where the paint had been peeled off. He let out a quiet sigh before starting to climb up the old monkey bars. Even that was not as easy at it use to be.
Once reaching the last bar he climbed onto of the monkey bars and carefully crawled to the center and swung his legs over the edge and let them hang from there. He let out a heavy breath. "Wow I'm old." He muttered to himself." He had his arms a few inches behind him holding himself to a sort of leaned back position. He looked up at the sky before looking back down at the ground.
"Don't say that. If your old that means I'm old." The familiar voice said from behind him causing Taeil to jumped slightly, almost loosing his grip on the bars. He swung around a bit to see Johnny standing there in all black his hands stuffed his pockets. "Fuck you," Taeil said to him. "For one, ghosting me and two, scaring me." Taeil said scolding the tall Male. Johnny just rolled his eyes and walked to the other side of the monkey bars but instead of climbing the little stair type thing he just pulled himself up to the top.
"Show off." Taeil scoffed, earning yet another eye roll from Johnny. "I didnt mean to 'ghost' you, Taeil." Johnny said making himself comfortable next to Taeil. Taeil just gave him a slight shrug and looked down. "I just couldn't find time. You wouldn't understand." Johnny said with his best excuse. "Enlighten me." Taeil said with bitter tone, looking at Johnny. "Remember last time, how I said we had to earn free time. Well I was doing that so I could spend more time with you." Johnny said half lying.
He had time he was just using it to plan something. He just wasn't going to share that with Taeil. Taeil nodded a bit. "How much time do we got?" He questioned looking at him. Johnny gave him a small smile. "How ever long you want." Taeil smileed and turned away. He was still a little annoyed by Johnny's previous actions but he's willing to forgive.
Taeil hummed in thought wondering what he even was gonna do with Johnny. He doesn't really know what this Johnny likes. "Remember that arcade we use to go to?" Taeil asked turning his eyes back to his friend. Johnny smiled softly and answered with a small 'yeah'. "Well let's go there then." Taeil said looking down at the ground under him. He wondered if he'd hurt his leg if he jumped?
Johnny nodded to Taeils idea and hopped off the side of the monkey bars, looking at Taeil still up at the top. "Still being a show off, I see." Taeil teased him, turning to crawl back to side of the monkey bars and using the steps. That was the idea until Johnny stopped him. "You should jump then. I mean unless your scared?" Johnny teased back causing Taeil's eyes to widen slightly. Taeil was quick to wipe his scared expression off his face. "I'm not." He was quick to defend himself as he swung his legs back off. He scooted more to edge and looked over.
He hated how short is legs were. He seemed a lot further away from the ground then Johnny did. "C'mon, just jump! sometimes you gotta just go for it." Johnny gave some encouraging words. Taeil took a deep breathe and closed his eyes before letting himself fall to ground. He eventually opened them to find himself being held up by Johnny. "You didn't plant your feet, you almost hurt your ass." Johnny told Taeil who was staring up at him. He was shocked by two things. One he actually jumped and two how fast Johnny's reflexes had to be in order to have caught Taeil on time.
"Thanks." Taeil squeaked out a quick apology to Johnny. He pushed himself up from Johnny arms back onto his feet. "To the arcade my friend!" Taeil said a bit awkwardly and started to speed walk to the sidewalk. Johnny smiled and followed after. He had to admit he thought Taeil was very cute. Johnny knew he shouldn't even think that about him. It would only make the end harder for himself. Him and Taeil won't have forever.
