Two weeks to implementation day – everything was running smoothly.  Fran and her team were going full steam ahead to meet the deadline.

Bernie approached Fran one morning.   “Hi Bernie.  Anong balita?”

“Ma’am Fran, tumawag si Myla ng Marketing…may problema daw sila sa Sales Monitoring System.”

“Anong problema?”

“Kasi ma’am, nagkamali daw yung isang account manager ng pag-enter ng amounts sa isang client…nasobrahan daw ng zeroes…so ngayon bloated yung sales figures sa reports.  Eh kailangan na daw yung sales report today.”

Fran wrinkled her brow.  “Teka muna, hindi na tayo ang may hawak ng system na yan, di ba?  Sa team ni Norman yan.”

Bernie scratched his head.  “Oo nga ma’am, kaso on sick leave si Norman tapos yung programmer na naka-assign sa system, baguhan lang.  Di ba kaka-resign lang nung isa pang ka-team nila?”

“Ay oo nga pala.   Kaso ang dami nang nagbago sa sistema, at saka medyo nakalimutan ko na yung pasikot-sikot dun.”

Sheryl peered into Fran’s cubicle.  “Fran, pinapatawag ka ni Sir Henry.   Asap daw.”

Fran grimaced.  “Naku eto na…principal’s office na ‘ko.”   She gathered her pen and notebook and proceeded to her boss’ office on the 9th floor.

“Hi Fran, take a seat.”  Henry peered at her from above his glasses.  He was holding sheets of paper, apparently a copy of some report.  Seated on one of the chairs was Edwin, the new programmer assigned to the Sales Monitoring system.   Fran sat down beside him.   Shortly, they were joined by Gavin and Myla who took the seats opposite her.

Henry started.  “So Fran, I guess you know why we’re here.”  Fran nodded.  “I know Norman’s on sick leave and since you handled this system before, you’re the next best person to look into this.   Please guide Edwin here on what to do dahil medyo nangangapa pa siya.”

“Sige sir, I’ll see what I can do.”

“Henry, the corrected report should be on JSL’s desk by this afternoon.”  Gavin cut in, his face in a scowl.   Fran sensed his doubts on their ability to fix this.

Henry eyed him directly.  “I’m sure Fran and Edwin can handle this.  And please extend them any assistance they would need.  Okay?...Thanks.”   And they were dismissed.

Gavin hovered by the door as Myla and Fran huddled with Edwin at his workstation.  They were at this for the last half hour with Fran instructing Edwin and at the same time, trying to recall the intricacies of the system.   Before they could find a solution, they had to be sure exactly how this worked.  She asked Edwin to make an exact copy of the data and use the copy for their investigation.  Slowly but surely they were making headway.

“Maaayos niyo ba ‘yan?”  Gavin asked impatiently.

“Relax Gavin, maaayos namin ito.”  She glanced at him.

“Maybe you should just call Norman and ask him.”

“Maysakit nga yung tao.  Ayoko naman istorbohin.”

Gavin leaned against the doorway, his arms folded across his chest.   “Dapat kasi the system is flexible enough to handle this kind of scenario.”
