Gavin tossed his phone onto his bed as he paced across his hotel room the next morning.   He exhaled loudly, running both his hands through his hair.   He had just received a call from Tonette, telling him that Fran requested that her flight back to Manila be moved to this morning due to “urgent matters”.  He also learned that Fran checked out of the hotel early this morning.   Her rebooked flight wasn’t due to leave in two hours but she wasn’t answering her phone or messages.  Gavin had an important meeting with See Tek in an hour which he was sorely tempted to cancel.

He typed in his nth text message to Fran :   I’m really really sorry about what happened.  I hope you’re safe and okay.

He plopped down onto the couch, his mind racing.  What should he do now?  How could he face Fran on Monday?   How can he regain her trust?    Can he regain it in the first place?  So many questions were running through his mind.

And the memory of last night came back again.  He closed his eyes to relive every second of it.

Her scent.

Her warmth.

Her softness.

The sweetness of her lips.

“What did I do?”   Gavin groaned at his stupidity.

He didn’t know what had gotten into him – why he had let it happen.

He had crossed a line that he should’ve stayed away from.   Now, he wondered if he could ever go back.

Fran was awakened by a knock on her bedroom door.

“Fran, may delivery para sa ‘yo.”   It was her older sister Faye whom she shared the house with.   She glanced at her bedside clock.   It was almost 6 PM.    She had slept for almost 3 hours after arriving from the airport.

“Ano yan, Ate?”   She stood up and opened her door to find a bouquet of daisies and yellow roses on the floor.

“Kaka-deliver lang niyan.”   Faye hollered from the kitchen as she prepared dinner.

“Thanks, Ate.”   Fran hollered back and opened the envelope that came with the bouquet.

Fran,

I’m truly sorry for what happened.

I hope it doesn’t change things.

Gavin

She sighed, unconsciously touching her lips.

She plopped onto her bed, in disbelief at the turn of events.   First there was her jealousy against Pam.   Then there was the kiss.

The kiss.

She shut her eyes at the memory.

“How can it not change things?”,  she wondered.

Fran had the whole day of Monday to catch up on the work she left during her Davao trip.    Luckily, there was no need to leave her office for any meeting.    She just wasn’t ready to bump into Gavin.  As to their dance rehearsal tonight, she asked Ms. Nancy to be excused on the pretext of an ‘emergency matter’.
