Prologue:
Wind was gushing out off every side, caring ton of water and leafs. Arthur hardly saw the road, it didn't look too good for him. Car swayed right and left, tires barely touching the ground. The curvy road surrounded Oak-wood's, pitch black forest.
Thought that he'll die stayed at the back of his mind, never daring to let go of the wheel. Breaks weren't responding and pouring rain shielded his line of site. Now he was sure, death was waiting for him. There was absolutely no chance of survival, for a second he regretted hating his old boring life. Regretted never leaving the house. Regretted never visiting mothers and fathers grave. And regretted never falling in love. Just as that thought crossed his mind car swayed to the left and went of the road.
"Shit!"
Tumbling car went down hill. Scratching, denting and Arthur couldn't do anything but scream. Shattered glass creating cuts all over his body. His shaky hands shielded his face from never ending torture. Oozing blood, his whole body hurt. The last thought that stroke him before car hit the tree was his grandma, waiting for his arrival.
And then everything faded to darkness.19 hours before:
Arthur woke up, not even bothering setting up an alarm. Over the years, he got used to his boring pattern of life. Just working, eating and sleeping. His body adapted and even on Sundays he woke at 5:30 am. Dark circled featured his pale body. Lately he wasn't able to even afford food.
Groaning he got up, "And those are the moments I ask myself, do i really need that job?"
'But given the fact that you started talking to yourself, yes Arthur. you do.'
"Oh I have gone nuts for sure"
The sudden death of his parents left him alone. Ever since his 15th birthday he was alone. Up till then he was a happy kid, even tho he didn't have many friends he still had mum and dad. Not having any family left he was put into an orphaned, year later foster homes. But nobody wanted a teenager so he often changed families. At 17 he was adopted by an older lady who gave him home and love he needed. Old lady lived alone in an village, close to his home town. They lived in an cottage by the woods, she wasn't rich but they had enough. After finishing school at 22 Arthur made the decision to start working. Because village was too small there wasn't a place he could work in. Soon he found a place that would hire him. It was a pretty nice job, though he would have to work in an office. He hated paper work. The decision might have been hasty, yes it was pretty far away but it was in his home town. He wanted to at least be near his parents. Convincing grandma that it was for the best, she finally let him under one condition. That he would visit her from time to time.
The job he went such a long way for, turned out to be a scam. Quite desperate he was lucky the old guy at gas station agreed to hire him. Though job wasn't that hard and payment was neither low nor high but just in middle. It wasn't his dream job but at least he's working. Turns out apartments, even the shittiest ones weren't cheap. Bills stared to pile up and suddenly one job wasn't enough so he started working a night shift at McDonald's.
He let his body slump on the couch as his body literally screamed in protest. Yesterday boss was pissed, so why not he let his anger on him. Of course he didn't beat him, that would be illegal, he gave him shit ton of work and now he is tired as fuck.
'Just great' He felt tiered and lazy like a potato but he had to go to work. 'Lets get this over with, then I can hed out to granny's village' Feeling a bit better by the thought of granny he grabbed an apple and headed off to work. The workplace was pretty much far away from his apartment. About a 40 min walk but that didn't bother him much. He liked cold morning breeze on his skin it gave him some kind of comfort, even he didn't know why.
Walking thru streets having his hands tightly wrapped around himself. "Fuck comfort I hate cold mornings" positive thinking wasn't his specialty. 'If I manage to get to there in one peace it would be a miracle.' he was freezing but still kept the pace. The neighborhood was pretty dangerous it would be troublesome and scary to encounter someone.
Finally reaching his work he welcomed the warmth it was offering. Already used to smell of gasoline it didn't bother him much. After all he was an 24 old man bitching about it would be just embarrassing. Getting himself busy, so he didn't have to engage in a conversation with a bratty co-worker, he began working in storage.
'Finally!' Setting up the last tuna box. The clock ticket and it was time to go home.
Thankfully he already ate so he can just go home and pack. After all a long road is ahead of him, he can't waste time.
Starting the car he wondered if he'll get there before the dark. On the news they said something about rain.
"Well, a little of rain can't kill me."
