Devastating. It was truly sad to see that this party was a complete disaster. A Christmas party that embodied zero holiday cheer and 100% awkwardness. How was this evident?
Let's review, shall we: Music? Terrible and nonexistent. Guest? Bland and boring. Slughorn? Oblivious and nauseatingly cheerful. And Scarlett? Annoyed and hungry. Draco had yet to make an appearance and this was putting a damper on her mood. The only saving grace was the food.
"Let's leave," James whispered while drinking his spiked punched.
Scarlett copied his movement and sipped her drink while shaking her head. Her punch wasn't spiked. For some reason she had decided to quit drinking all together. She was doing great so far. Scarlett shook her head again, lost in thought. The movement making her lovely hair bounce softly; James' honey colored eyes were glued to it wanting to reach out and touch it.
"I'll be right back," Scarlett announced. Her eyes making contact with an exasperated Hermione Granger. The Gryffindor had taken McCormick as a date and everyone knew the boy was insufferable.
Making her way over there, Scarlett noticed that everyone stopped and stared at her. It wasn't so shocking due to the fact that Scarlett was dressed to kill but it was refreshing to feel wanted without taking off her clothes. Scarlett mentally cringed. How childish she had been. How broken.
"Granger," Scarlett beckoned.
A relieved Hermione ran over to her. "Thank goodness. I've been trying to avoid him but he keeps finding me."
Scarlett's eyes lit up with amusement.
"Granger darling, why did you agree to come with that poor excuse of a man?" Scarlett pretended to be oblivious but she knew it was because Hermione wanted to make Ron Weasley jealous; especially after he began dating that train wreck of a girl. But Weasley wasn't here.
"No reason," Hermione evaded the question.
Scarlett rolled her eyes, "It's because of that Violet girl, isn't it?"
Suddenly, Hermione burst into laughter. Scarlett's expression turned confused as she watched Hermione double over in hysteria for a good minute.
"Was it something I said?"
Hermione took a deep breath and dramatically wiped a few tears away. "Lavender."
"What's lavender?"
Hermione shook her head but continued to smile idiotically. "Her name is Lavender."
Scarlett sighed in annoyance. "What did I say?"
"You said Violet," Hermione burst into another fit of laughter and Scarlett heard a manly chuckle behind her and realized James had been standing behind her and he was laughter with Hermione.
Scarlett went to make a rebuttal but after seeing that sheer glow of happiness on Hermione's face she couldn't help but smile at her with a soft laugh.
"I don't see your point."
And just like that they all laughed. Scarlett began to make jokes to brighten Hermione's mood and perhaps even distract her from the fact that Draco had yet to show.
She could have sworn that by making Draco jealous with James that he would have came trail-blazing in here like a mad man. She was wrong with her assessment. She need to revisit her plans and revise. Draco will not ignore her.
