Hank leaned his chin on the palms of his hands and let out a grumpy huff of air. "What seems to be the matter, Lieutenant?" Connors voice suddenly asked from beside Hanks' face. "Fucking hell!" the old man shrieked, almost jumping out of his seat. "S-sorry Lieutenant" the android apologized, a concerned expression covering his face. Hank waved him off and sighed, "yeah, yeah, just a bit annoyed with all these fucking cases that have come in since androids have been accepted."
"Oh, I understand completely, it's especially hard to see humans finding their situation so hard to accept when your an android yourself" the brunette explained, trying to sound neutral about the problem but he couldn't help sounding a bit upset with the things humans had done over the past two months."Yeah, well we're the most knowledgeable candidates for Android cases so we can't really do anything about it unless we wanna get fired", "that does seem to be the case, but at least we get to stay partners and work together" Connor stated, smiling happily. Hank grinned the tiniest bit and it was perfect enough to make Connors day. "True that", and now there's, even more, to make the android feel an odd amount of glee.
"Connor, Anderson, we've got a new case" Captain Fowler interrupted, exiting his glass office. "The landlord of Chandle Apartments a few blocks away asked an android couple for more than the average rent and it escalated into a fight, I need you two to interrogate the three and figure out if and what charges should be pressed. They're arriving in a few minutes, understood?"
"Understood, Captain," Connor said, nodding. Fowler nodded back and went back to sitting on his desk and drinking coffee. "Yeepee" Hank cheered sarcastically. Connor smiled at him and startled heading towards the interrogation room. The two took their seats at the iron table and waited for the first person to arrive. "So Connor" Hank started, turning his head to look at his partner. "Yes, Lieutenant?"
"Have you decided on a last name yet?" though the detective tried to hide his beaming curiosity, Connor could see right through him.
"Not yet, I've been having a lot of trouble choosing one that feels right."
Before the officer could reply the door slammed open, at the entrance stood a policewoman holding a male Android in cuffs. She pushed him towards his chair then quickly left without a word.
The robot looked pretty messed up with cuts along his cheekbone and arm and the splatter of blue blood across his pale green shirt.
"The name's Lieutenant Anderson and this is Detective Connor, we're here to ask you some questions about what happened earlier today with your landlord as I'm sure you know, so could you please explain what happened exactly?" Hank said, becoming increasingly more formal. "M-me and my girlfriend recently moved into the, um, apartment and we had our first rent due. We... We gave him the right amount but he said androids have to pay more" he explained, nervously looking down at the table. "How did the situation turn into a fight?" Connor questioned, leaning in closer to the machineHe turned his head toward the two and inspected them cautiously, he seemed to quickly find whatever he was searching for and continued. "May, my girlfriend... She... She has a bad temper and attacked him, but he had a knife with him and stabbed her chest, by this point I had already called the police and since you guys are only down the street they were very quick to arrive and well, now I'm h-here."
"Can you tell us how much more he was asking for?"
"$10,000"
"What?" Hank almost yelled, "who wouldn't get pissed off at a price like fucking that?""Thank you for your cooperation" Connor stated, nodding at his fellow android, "Lieutenant, I'm going to go ask for the landlord, you stay here"
"Yes, sir." Hank saluted jokingly, recovering from his shock.
The brunette stood up and walked out of the room leaving Hank alone with the android. "So kid gotten yourself a job yet?" The question seemed to spark something in the 'kid' and he started telling Hank all about his job and training at a family-run restaurant. Eventually, Connor came back with two police officers, arm in arm with an overweight man who looked incredibly mad. The officers took the android and placed the man in the chair, giving Hank a few warning signs before leaving.
"Alright, Mr landlord what's your story?" Hank inquired, not even bothering with introductions. "Is that a fucking android?" the man spotted, furrowing his eyebrows and looking to Hank. "Yes, I am an android," the brunette said emotionless. He noticed Hank's increasingly irritated face, "don't tell me you actually work on crimes with this shitty tin can?"
"Yes, I do. Is there a fucking problem with that?" Hanks anger now matches the culprits. "Lieutenant" Connor warns, eying his Partner, he ignores him. "Are you a fucking idiot? Of course, there is! I don't want it handling my case, I'm not going to say anything unless the machine goes and gets the fuck out of here." The Lieutenant furiously stood up, "Hank!" the brunette shouted, also standing up. He quickly placed an arm in front of Hank, in hopes of stopping any violence. "Go get someone to take him out" he ordered, staring at Hank with a different kind of fire than the other two in the room. He groaned, "fine."
"You and your kind won't be around for long, trust me", Connor stayed silent, looking away from him dismissively.
"Hey! Fucking listen to me!" the landlord shouted, joining Connor in a standing position. Connor couldn't help but be reminded of his post deviant days as he yet again kept his mouth shut. The old man angrily stomped over and grabbed hold of Connor's collar, handcuffs still tightly wrapped around his wrists. A tiny nervous butterfly formed in the android's stomach area, but he reminded himself he's stronger. It didn't help.
"I said listen to me you plastic fuck!", he slammed Connor against the interrogation room's iron wall.
"Stop right there," the female officer from before demanded, originally here to pick up the suspect not stop a fight, well, not really a fight. Hank stood right behind her looking absolutely furious once he realized what was happening. The policewoman took him away, "you'll see, you'll go back to being slaves soon" he jeered as he was pushed out of the room.
"What the fuck, Connor?" Connor looked down, "I know, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have forced you to leave, this is your-", "I don't give a shit about that" Hank interrupted, stepping in front of the android. Connor looked back up at the Lieutenant, a confused expression painted on his face. "I'm talking about you not standing up to that dickhead!"
"I didn't want to start a figh-"
"Don't give me that shit" he interrupted yet again. "We're past that."
"... I..." he started, trying to figure out a way to explain his feelings. "I...didn't know what to do... I... was scared... These emotions are just so new and overwhelming." Before he could stop it the truth was escaping his lips. Hank sighed "Connor...". A pang of sudden guilt entered his body, he took a seat and a moment of silence passed.
"... You alright?" the cop asked, looking to his partner, who looked extremely conflicted. "Yeah, I know this is something I'm going to have to get used to if I want to continue working here" Connor started connecting eyes with Hank, glad that he cared. "Maybe, you should take a break from work for a bit. You'll have more time to look for a place to stay then and figure out the last name thing."
"No, I'll just be more sensitive when I come back then. It's best I stay" he denied
"If you say so, it's your decision"
