The playground was covered in a thick layer of snow, stopping kids from visiting it. So instead of being surrounded by lively chatter, Connor sat alone on the icy stairs of the structure, waiting for his Partner to arrive.
But the android was too clouded by his confusing thoughts to notice the presence taking a seat beside him. He only came accustomed to it when Hank sipped on a plastic coffee mug, breaking the silence. "Good morning, Lieutenant" Connor greeted, moving his gaze from the morning sun shining through the trees to the man next to him. "How long you been out here?"
"About an hour" the brunette replied nonchalantly. "Jesus, you're lucky you robots don't get sick" Hank states, meeting eyes with Connor. A comfortable silence filled the space between them as they gazed into each others² eyes. The android of the two found himself getting lost in Hanks greyish blue eyes, they were so different from the rest of his appearance, they comforted Connor in the confusing times he was going through.Remembering Hanks statement a thought came to mind. "What's it like being cold?"
"It depends on how cold, right now I want to go back home, cuddle with Sumo on the couch and put the heater on high, but my favourite kind of cold is when you've been doing something stressful and when you step outside a brisk gush of air is waiting for you, to give you a break" Hank explains, smiling the whole time."Then why don't you go back to Sumo? You didn't have to come out so early" Connor asked curiously peering at the man.
"Because I knew there would be an Android sitting out here, all alone" he replied, standing up from the stairs of the playground. He scruffled Connors' hair, "we should get in the car, I can't take this weather anymore."
They both hopped in the vehicle and a warm heat hugged the two, making Hank sigh happily and sip his coffee. "Much better."
"Hey Connor, how's that Marcus dude? Still working with Android rights?" Before a reply could be said a vibrating noise came from Connors pocket. He pulled out an old phone making Hank peek over his shoulder. "Speak of the devil."
"Hello Marcus"
"Maybe, I'll have to check once we're at the station"
"Uh, yeah, I'm with the lieutenant." Connors eyes wondered over to Hank who was curiously listening in and squinting his eyes as if it was going to make him hear better. A large grin that surprised the android appeared on Hanks face. It gave Connor an odd and indescribable feeling but he still smiled back immediately. "Alright, I'll text you later, bye.""What did he want?" the grey haired man asked. "He was wondering if I could meet him for dinner."
"Okay, but make sure you go somewhere cheap and not one of
those shitty restaurants that give you one bite meals." He replied, secretly but not secretly worrying about Connors money situation.
Connor could help but widen his smile. "You know if you're worried about me lieutenant you could just say." Connors eyebrows raised and his grin was slowly turning into a teasing smirk."Shut up, of course I'm worried, I can't imagine what it's like to be an android in this day and age. It seems like fucking hell"
"Some parts of it do feel... very excruciating, but having people around you who are accepting make the tough parts worth it in the end." The statement sets off a warm feeling inside Hanks chest, the kind that makes him so thankful that he came to the park instead of staying home.
"Hank, Connor, in my office" was the first thing the two partners heard as they entered the police department. "Wanna bet it's more of these fucking android cases?" Hanks said, raising an eyebrow at the brunette next to him. "I thought you were worried about my finance issues, lieutenant" Connor smirks, looking right back at the man. "Fucking android" Hank whispered under his breath as they walked into Captain Fowlers office.
"We need to talk about the android cases" Fowler starts looking at them from his desk chair. "What about them?"
"As you know since the alliance between the androids and humans the crime rates have skyrocketed and the department has been pushing the majority of the cases onto you two"
"Yes, yes, because we're the most experienced with them and blah blah blah" Hank interupts getting slightly frustrated at the Captain taking his time.
"Which was wrong of us... Me. So I've decided we need more detectives handling these cases, so I need you two too pick one of the newbies each and teach them about androids and also the ropes of being a detective." Fowler spoke flately, keeping a strong hold on mainly Hanks blue eyes.
"Sir, does this mean-"
"Yes Connor the two of you are going to have to split up, this is your chance to work with someone new-"
"Bullshit!" Hanks voice boomed, "You finally give me someone I can fucking work with and now you're just going to split us up!" instead of a rage filled anger burning in Connor too, all he could do was imagine life without Hank as his partner.
He'd get on with anyone need fine because that's who he was but Hank was Hank, his colleague, his friend, his partner and he couldn't handle another drastic change like this.
"Hnak, I know you're angry but this will take off all the loads of work on your shoulders"
"I don't give a shit about how much work you give me, I need to stay partners with Connor!" his tone was a fiery rage but it held an undertone of desperation. A silence filled the room and it was starting to give Hank a headache.
He stomped out of the glass room, off to who knows where leaving Fowler and Connor alone. "Connor, I hope you'll be more understanding with-"
"I, um, I better get back to work" and with that the android left the room.
