mackenzie's pov

okay, so, maybe the vodka wasn't such a good idea.

if i had known we were going to play volleyball, i wouldn't have had so much, but annie sprang that on me last minute.

we arrive to the sand volleyball courts where two games are already going on. an older woman with wrinkles around her eyes approaches us with a smile.

"would you four like to join a game?"

"yes." annie and i say at the same time that johnny and hayden say, "no."

annie and i shoot them a death glare. "yes. yes, actually, we would." johnny tries again. we turn back to face the lady and she turns back to the court to our right.

"this match will be over soon, and you guys can fill in wherever." she says in an all-too perky tone, and then walks off.

my mouth still has the bitter taste of alcohol on it. "water." i mumble, looking expectantly at the three of my friends. they stare expectantly back. "water." i try again, more forcefully, making a motion with my hands. i take a step forward, and my head spins.

definitely too much vodka.

"damn it. i wanted to show off my kick-ass volleyball skills but now i feel too drunk." i state plainly.

"shhhh!" annie exclaims, jumping over to me and clamping a hand over my mouth. i have the giddy urge to lick it, but she pulls it away and glares at me.

"don't be so loud! are you trying to get caught?"

hayden and johnny exchange glances.

"hey, waddya guys looking at each other for?" i pout, stomping through the sand over to them. john gives me a concerned look, and hayden glances at annie, which makes me feel even more left out, because now annie's in on it too!

rude.

"um, annie, how much did she drink?" johnny whispers nervously.

"hey!" i exclaim, whipping around and holding my finger up in declaration. "i am NOT a lightweight, johnny, if that is what you are trying to say." i whisper-yell as my world tilts sideways again.

i giggle.

"this is like a rollercoaster." i giggle again as i turn around again, until i'm going in circles. i trip, and stumble backwards, where somebody catches me under the arms before i hit the ground.

when i glance up, hayden is glaring back at me. i giggle again. "hayden, you're upside-down."

he shakes his head and pulls me back on my feet, then glowers at me.

"yeah, not a lightweight at all." he grumbles.

i'm not! i march back up to him to say so, when the lady comes back over. hayden goes a bit wide-eyed and grabs me by the shoulders, turning me back around to face the woman instead of him.
