I may not look like you,
I may not have the same skin colour,
My arched eyebrows and squinty eyes
May not go well with my long, dark eyelashes
But it is okay.
I am not a stereotype
You do not have to conform to what is acceptable
Who should define what is acceptable?
No one.
I may have a very Caucasian way of speaking
My mother tongue,
Yet, I am trying.
You're trying.
No one should tell you
How Asian, Black, White you are
You are not structured to look like the rest
You are you.
You belong regardless,
Even when you do not follow society's ideals
The colour of your skin,
The way you speak,
Does not determine your character or worth.
Honey, you belong
You have the same fire that burns in you,
Like the rest of them,
You want to be somebody
Go ahead.
Never let someone tell you
Who you should be,
How you should be.
