I rouse in my head to hear the buzz going off from my alarm clock. I slam the alarm clock with the pads of my fingers. I take a glance that it is 6:02 in the morning and I take a look at the sun rising as it brightens the walls of my room. I head towards the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face prior to returning my bedroom to put my glasses on in addition to changing into a cotton blue short sleeve shirt with a U-neck along with a pair of navy stirrup jeans and Chuck Taylor's. My fingers gingerly unravel each braid at a time and I unzip my backpack to make sure that I have the supplies for this year such as;my folders, a kit of pencils in a pencil box, erasers, folders, Composition books, my portable Discman is in my backpack as well as a pair of headphones, and my schedule.
"Okay,"I mutter to myself as I have Mrs. Schultz for English 11. She is a great teacher when she was teaching science and math last year not because she gives out chocolate bars, but how she makes both subjects enjoyable, in which I will tell you all about it later because I breathe in the scent of bacon being sizzled from the kitchen downstairs. I grab my backpack by the handle and grab my keys off the dresser along with shutting the TV off, which I would resume after I get home from work later on. Exiting my bedroom to head towards downstairs, I find my dad reading the latest issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer while my mom is cooking up a breakfast storm of toast, eggs, bacon, and pancakes with a pitcher of red Kool-Aid sitting in the middle of the table.
"Good morning, mom and dad!" I wrap my arm around my dad's back as he gives me a tight side hug.
"Good morning, sweetheart!" My mom walks towards me to give me a smooch on my forehead.
"Good morning, Sweet Pea! Are you ready for your first day of your junior year?" Dad queries with a benevolent smile.
"Yeah,"I beam and take a seat with a meal resting in front of me, piercing the stack of three pancakes with the fork and knife as well as cutting them too before taking a bite of the fluffy, buttermilk pancakes and taking a sip of the Kool-Aid.
"Good morning, mom and dad!" Both Diane and Carolyn chime simultaneously.
"Diane Marie, where do you think you're going with an outfit like that?" I pivot in my seat to observe Diane modeling in a yellow orange two tone color block blazer with a white top underneath it along with a short black skirt that stops closer to her knees with a mustard beret topping her frizz-free jet black coils and down to her white closed toe heels. I know damn well she's not going to school dressing like that to make the girls jump her during and after school.
"What? I could be discovered by modeling agencies in school and every girl dress like it out of music videos and still go to school in it!"Diane replies with a defensive tone.
"Ugh! Gag me with a spoon already," I roll my eyes just as I shove a forkful of pancakes in my mouth as well as chewing them. "Why follow the faux-cool crowd in order to win the approval of others when you could just dress your own style. That, my sister, is how you be the leader." I suggest. I'm sick of my young sister following a crowd that has to be approved by garments in trendiest stores when she should be herself like Carolyn and I? It wouldn't hurt her reputation if she tried.
