After I read the letter, I checked the time. It turned out my first class was taught by Mrs. Duatoff, and it started in an hour. For the record, her name is pronounced as Doo-ah-toff. The class was listed as Celestial One. I got dressed, brushed my teeth, grabbed the school supplies provided for me, et cetera, and mentally prepared myself for a high-speed elevator ride. Seriously, that thing is a safety hazard. Why is it still a thing? But I digress. This time the elevator background music appeared to be birds chirping. But not the regular sounds of nature, it was a choir of birds covering Beat It by Michael Jackson. I sighed, entered the room number on the keypad, and gripped the handrails for dear life.

The classroom for Celestial One is actually pretty normal. Now that I'm older, it was actually pretty similar to a university classroom. Except for the part where the area the teacher would stand was much larger. And the ceiling was glass. And that through the ceiling, you could see this weird mixture of night and day. On one side, you could clearly see the sun, on the other, the full moon shown. The stars were bright, but unfamiliar. I had never seen the sky take those patterns. I should mention that astronomy has always been a hobby of mine. Anyways, it was beautiful, but unfamiliar. Also, there were giant hunks of white crystal hanging off the ceiling.

When I arrived in the room, everyone was chatting. I was early by about ten minutes. I figured this was odd. Then I spotted Gavin, sitting alone. I figured he would be fine if I sat next to him. He was fine with it, but I did surprise him.

"Oh! Hey Rose."

"Hey. Funny meeting you here."

"Shut up. Sun, Moon, or Star?"

"Moon. You?"

"Sun."

"Oh, cool. Maybe we can teach each other tricks?"

"Maybe. From what I've heard, it's possible to do other types of magic, but it's easier to do the stuff you master in."

"Master in?"

"Terminology for the magic your body and mind instinctively use."

"This is one of the first classes of the day, how do you know this already?"

"Maybe it's the first for you. I've been up for hours."

"Why?"

"It's best if I show you," Gavin pulled out his own letter. It was basically the same as mine, but it had his name, and it listed a lot more types of magic than mine did.

"Holy shit!"

"I know. The headmaster of the school called me to his office to talk about my results. It was kind of weird. He actually said that they detected stuff they couldn't identify, and he said it was possible I had more masteries I can't use yet. Then I was immediately sent to my first class."

"What class?"

"Necromancy 101."

"Okay, I have six masteries listed. How do you have twelve?"

"Wait, six? The headmaster told me that's kind of rare."

"Seriously?"

"Why would I lie? It's heard of, not that unusual, but it's still kind of a big deal. The teachers who teach ones with six or more are actually given lists of students like that beforehand and familiarize themselves beforehand."

"Wow."

"Yeah."

Mrs. Duatoff entered the room, staggering and grasping for a handhold.
