The rest of my classes went off without a hitch. I was late to Potion Making and missed Telepathy For Beginners. I caught up with Gavin and the others over dinner. It's mandated that everyone goes to a community dinner every day. The cafeteria is big enough. And... that about sums up the first three months of school. After a little while, Celestial 101 stopped spitting up at the beginning of class. Elemental Basics stopped spitting into two groups. I caught up on the classwork I missed from the day I got burned, and things began rolling smoothly, save for the fact I wasn't aging. You see, what happened was called a temporal distortion. Some of us were stuck in a certain time, others were not. It was like we were in bubbles of sorts. Different times touching, but just barely. The school is completely isolated. No one leaves while they're students. I had to spend four years as a fifteen-year-old. It... wasn't pretty. So did Gavin and Jake. Lorcan was fourteen the entire time. Well, Gavin didn't spend four years, but I'll explain why later. As you can imagine, we were more than a little pissed when we found out about this.
"Are you kidding me!?" Jake said.
"No. I have no reason too. I'm honestly surprised you just now found out." Benedicta didn't even bother looking up from her book.
"I knew."
"You grew up with this. We didn't!" Jake yelled again.
"Jake, calm down. This could be worse," I said.
"Rose, how could this be worse?" Gavin finally spoke up. He had just recovered from his shock. Out of all of us, he took it the worse. We still just scared kids, after all.
"Well, I could be still having my periods this entire time. But I'm not, I've noticed."
"Lucky!" Benedicta called.
"And?" Jake said.
"I tend to have pretty horrible ones."
"And?"
"And let's leave it at that."
We continued yelling at Benedicta and each other for a few minutes. She said she didn't tell us because she assumed someone else would. Then we had to leave because the next class was entering the room. I should mention that we were in Mrs. Nightheart's classroom.
"Well, now what?" I said.
"I don't know about you guys, but I need some alone time. I'll catch up with you later," Jake turned around and headed towards the dorms.
"Bye," I muttered.
"I've got a class in five minutes. I should go too. I can probably find out more about the 'not-aging' thing. See ya," Gavin turned off into a different hall.
"See ya, Gavin," Lorcan called.
We walked together in silence as we headed towards the cafeteria.
"Lorcan?"
"Yeah?"
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"Well, it's awkward to talk about."
"Really? That's the story you're going with?"
"Yes, because it's true."
We walked in silence for a while, before Lorcan and I went our separate ways.
