I woke up with the sound of someone opening the back door and light entering the living room. I opened my eyes and saw my dad. Immediately, I looked to the side to see where Will was. He didn't even wake up, we were laying on opposite sides of the "bed", thank god.
⁃ Dad? What are you doing? - I mumbled, sitting up slowly.
⁃ Good morning - he was whispering, but he didn't seem angry- Did you sleep here?
⁃ Hum, yes... We stayed up pretty late and I didn't want to wake the others so I crashed here.
He didn't ask me anything else about it. It made sense that he bought it, he knew Will since he was born and I don't think my dad was aware that I was old enough to date.
I was so glad I still had the dress from last night on, which meant I really hadn't been in my room, or else I would've changed.
I wanted to wake Will up so we could talk before the others woke up. But then again, he wasn't my boyfriend or even a close friend. I didn't really feel comfortable waking him up. Besides, I bet he liked to sleep late.
Truly, Will was the last one to get up. We were all having breakfast together on the porch when Faith told Carrie to go wake him up so he could join us. My mom had made scones and pancakes and it all smelled delicious.
I was really nervous though. I didn't know what I would say to him or if he even wanted to talk about what happened. None of us were sober when it happened so maybe it didn't mean anything. Maybe I should just forget it happened.
Will finally got to the porch, still half asleep, and sat between his dad and Carrie, who sat in front of me. He immediately started eating and didn't even glance at me. I was so nervous I couldn't eat. Did he really not care about last night? I hadn't really thought it through and I really didn't know how I felt about the whole thing, but I knew I didn't want to just move past it.
I needed to talk to my friends about it, I never acted on anything without asking their advice first. But I couldn't tell them, it would be rude of me to ask them to talk to me privately and make Carrie feel left out. Besides, they would totally freak out and give us away, and I didn't want anyone else to know what had happened. So I decided I would tell them as soon as the Davenports left. Which meant that for now I had to deal with this on my own.
After breakfast I offered to wash the dishes. I needed to be alone to think and figure some things out. I was humming some songs near the sink as I washed a coffee mug when Will walked in the kitchen.
⁃ Hey...
⁃ Hey. - I glanced at him and returned to what I was doing.
⁃ So, your mom asked if I could pick up some groceries from the shop...
⁃ Hum, okay- I tried to sound casual, like nothing had happened, but my knees were weak and my hands trembled.
⁃ I was kinda hoping you would come with me to "show me the way to the shop" - He muttered, sounding a bit reluctant.
⁃ Oh, it's right down the street, to your right.
⁃ Cat, please stop... will you come with me so I can have a moment alone with you? - He blurted, impatiently.
⁃ Well, why didn't you ask me that in the first place? - I asked, still looking down at the sink.
⁃ Please, Cat? Just come with me so we can talk.
I finally turned to him and smiled:
⁃ Fine. Help me out with these dishes then.
He smiled back and stood next to me in front of the sink. We did the dishes quietly and then left the house to go to the grocery shop.
We walked silently for a while, which felt like an eternity, until he finally spoke:
⁃ So, last night was great... - He paused. - Wasn't it?
⁃ It was. But Will, what are we doing here? - I decided to be upfront so we could figure things out.
⁃ I don't know.
⁃ How can you not know? You were the one who kissed me!
⁃ I didn't kiss you, it was totally mutual! - He was chuckling. And so was I.
⁃ Oh please, yes you did! Nonetheless, you asked me to slow dance with you! What was that all about?
⁃ I did, but only because you asked me to stay with you after they went to bed!
⁃ We're missing the point here, why did this happen? I don't know about you, but up until last night I had never thought about you in that way!
⁃ In what way? - He smirked at me.
⁃ Shut up, will you? - I tried to ignore him but I bet he'd made me blush.
⁃ I know what you mean, up until yesterday I had never felt attracted to you.
⁃ Well, thanks... - I rolled my eyes at him.
⁃ I'm attracted to you now, aren't I? So don't complain. - He winked at me and I just looked away. This time I was sure I'd blushed.
I didn't really know what to say, but, instead of staying silent, I asked:
⁃ Did you kiss me because I was the only one left?
⁃ What do you mean?- He sounded confused.
⁃ I mean, did you want to be with me specifically, or were you attracted to Lil but got stuck with me after she went to bed? - I don't know why but I always felt so insecure being around Lilian. I knew I wasn't totally unattractive but how could anybody notice me next to a real life Barbie?
⁃ Lilian? What? Why would you say that? - He stopped walking and we stood there in the street, facing each other.
⁃ Oh, come on, don't act stupid. - I rolled my eyes again.
⁃ I mean, yeah, she's hot, but what's that got to do with me liking you? - He took my hand, as if to reassure me. - Cat, I was attracted to you as soon as I got out of the car and saw you.
I looked at him and smiled. We started walking again and he squeezed my hand.
⁃ So, what are we? - I asked slowly, afraid of the answer.
⁃ Cat, we made out once, isn't it a little bit soon to be asking me that question? - He chuckled, like I was some cute little kid.
⁃ We didn't just make out, we spent the night together. And don't laugh at me, I've never been in this situation before! I don't know what to do! - I sounded nervous, but I chuckled too.
⁃ Just relax, let's have some fun, okay? Unless you don't want it to happen again... - He said, smirking, which meant he probably already knew my answer.
⁃ No, I do... but I don't want anyone to know, it would be too weird. I mean we're almost like family...
⁃ Please don't ever say that! - We both started laughing. - But I get it. Besides, it's fun to sneak around right?
He put his arm around me and kissed the top of my head. I just felt like smiling and got this weird feeling in my stomach, butterflies...
