"Johnny, what happened?" Hayden asked.

Johnny looked down, Hayden was going to think he was an absolute piece of shit. But he deserved it. Nadia was in pain and he could've prevented it, but he didn't, and he hated himself for that.

"You're going to hate me if I tell you." He said, looking up at the boy across from him.

"I promise that I won't," Hayden smiled, "We all make mistakes John. Just tell me what happened.

"There was this boy. Aidan Merwarth."

FLASHBACK! time travel y'all

Aidan Merwarth. An ex-dancer. A total heartthrob. A sweet smile. The perfect body. And he was so kind. Anything anybody could ever want, including Johnny. Aidan was the only boy he'd ever liked, and he swore to himself he'd do anything to make Aidan like him. And even if that meant pretending to be happy for Aidan, and being a great best friend when he announced that he was dating Nadia, he was going to do it.

Nadia was not ready for Aidan. He was older by almost three years, but she was smitten with him. He treated her like she was the only girl in the world, and she loved it. She loved the attention he gave her, and she loved how obsessed he was with her. To put it short, she loved attention. And Aidan gave her a lot of it.

Johnny was too caught up with drooling over Aidan, that he didn't see the red flags as they popped up like wildfire. They were the perfect couple. Everybody wanted to be them. Everybody wanted to be in love like them. But it wasn't long before things went downhill.

Aidan was obsessed with Nadia from the start, but he became even worse. He was like a stalker, but she loved him too much to tell him that she was uncomfortable. And then, one day, a big red flag popped up. He told her she couldn't talk to any other boys. Nadia didn't like that, but he threatened to break up with her if she didn't. So she did.

And then, he said she had to stop talking to her friends, and thankfully, she didn't know Lauren at the time, or she would've made the situation worse. This time however, Nadia fought back. But Aidan snapped, saying she was nothing without him, and that she didn't deserve him. He threatened to break up with her once again, and she did what he said.

Slowly, she began to believe that she really was nothing without Aidan. She treated herself like shit, just to make Aidan stay with her. And he loved every moment of her suffering, but John, he was too hopelessly in love with him to stop it. He just couldn't picture Aidan ever being a bad man.

John was wrong. Soon enough. The make outs weren't enough for Aidan. He wanted more from Nadia. More that she didn't want to give. Nadia was only 15, and that excuse worked on Aidan for a while, until it didn't. But still, she refused to put out. And it made him mad. And his madness drove him to do something terrible. And of course he went to his best friend that he could trust with ANYTHING to help him, and that was Johnny.

He asked John to help him with Nadia. And the naive boy was all ears. He wanted him to get her stupid drunk at his next party, and then bring her to him. Nadia never drank a lot, but if given a lot of alcohol, she was rendered harmless and immobile. Immediately, this didn't sit necessarily well with Johnny, but he wanted Aidan to like him, to approve of him, to make him feel valid. So he did it with no questions. He got Nadia really drunk, and brought her to Aidan. And then he left. He was an idiot, and left.
And Aidan had his way with her. John didn't really know what happened. But he had a small idea, and it broke his heart to think about it.

After that, Nadia was broken. It seemed like she lost herself completely. Like she had no rhyme or reason. And Aidan didn't care. And then one day, Johnny finally got smart, and he told Aidan to leave Nadia alone. Aidan didn't like that very much, and so, the first fight he ever got into was with a boy he had loved, and it was about one of his now, closest friends. After that day, Aidan left her alone. And he thankfully left for college not long after. But she was never the same. She was broken beyond repair. That happy girl she once was was gone. And John knew she would never go back to being that happy again, and he hated that. And he hated Aidan. But most of all, he hated himself.

END OF FLASHBACK!

Hayden was silent, and patient, listening to Johnny talk about how he loved a boy, and was foolish enough to do whatever he said. He was silent as he told the traumatic experience, and he only spoke up when John had finished.

"I don't hate you," Hayden said, "I agree, you were an idiot. And you did something horrible."

"I know, I suck," Johnny said, "Why are you still friends with me?"

"You didn't let me finish. Yes, you messed up, but you did the right thing. And you saved Nadia from being hurt even more," Hayden said, which shocked Johnny, "And after all that, you stayed by her side, and you were there for her. Not everyone would do that John. But you did, and that says something."

John smiled weakly, "Thanks Hayden. I seriously don't deserve you."
