[Picture is sorta how I imagine Adelaide. And, no, I did not draw it, nor do I claim to have drawn it. But whoever did, is an amazing artist!]

She fired.

The arrow whizzed through the air, and Adelaide bit her lip in anticipation.

It embedded itself in Smaug's side - a direct hit - and pierced his heart. The dragon shrieked in pain, and started falling. Right for Adelaide.

Oh, shit.

Adelaide leapt from the tower, and fell straight for the water.

The dragon followed.

"No!"

The town was in ruins by the time Thorin and his Company arrived. Smoke hung like a heavy curtain, soot covered the ground like a black blanket. The townspeople were crying, wounded, or dead. "Uncle!"

Thorin looked up at his nephews, some relief filling him that they were alive. "Fili, Kili!"

They hugged for a few seconds, before pulling back. Thorin heard a loud roar, and fear jolted through him. "Where is Addie?"

Fili and Kili paled. "We don't know!"

Thorin ran.

He spotted a large shape rising into the air, and the air became that of a violent hurricane. He spotted a smaller shape climbing up towards the wind lance. Addie. He ran harder, pushing himself to get to his Other Half before she gets herself killed.

If she dies, I swear to Durin that I will kill her.

She loaded the arrow, and fired.

The rest happened so quickly.

She leapt from the platform, and landed in the water.

And so did Smaug's mammoth corpse.

"No!"

Thorin ran to the water's edge, frantically looking for Addie's golden head to pop above the surface.

"C'mon Addie," he breathed, his chest clenching.

Oh, screw this!

He leapt into the freezing water.

He searched the murky water for Addie's shining, golden hair. Where are you?

He came back up for air, before going right back down. Come on, come on! Where the hell are you?

He finally spotted something, and swam for it.

Addie!

He grabbed her, pulling her leg free from underneath Smaug's mammoth corpse, and swam to the surface, pulling his Other Half with him.

He pulled her onto the dock, and leant over her, feeling her pulse point on her neck.

Barely anything.

He put his mouth to hers, and gave her mouth-to-mouth.

He pumped her chest. "Don't die on me, Adelaide! Don't you dare!"

He put his mouth back to hers.

The cycle continued for another ten minutes.

Just as he was about to place his mouth back on hers, she started coughing.

"Thorin?" She croaked, fluttering her eyes open.

"Oh, thank Durin!" He breathed, hugging her to his chest.

He lifted her up into his arms, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, tucking her head beneath his chin as he carried her back to the company.

"Addie!"

"Lass!"

"Auntie Addie!"

"Adelaide!"

"Lassie!"

The company swarmed them as he set her down on a blanket Bilbo set out.

"What happened?" Dwalin asked.

"She killed Smaug."

The crowd of townspeople went completely silent.

"She killed the Great Fire Drake of the North?" Bard asked.

Thorin nodded. "Aye. She did."

One by one, each of the townspeople started clapping, until a thunderous applause filled the air.

A smile lit up Adelaide's face.

Maybe I am a hero after all.
