"C'mon Uncle Thorin! They're little kids! What's the worse they could do?"
Adelaide and Thorin glanced at each other, silently saying the same thing: they have no idea.
"Well," Adelaide drew out, looking back at her nephews. "If you two think you handle the twins..."
Fili and Kili nodded their heads eagerly, smiling. "We can, Auntie Addie!"
She sighed. "Adele! Terin!"
The sounds of two pairs of feet running down a stone hallway reached their ears, and two blonde blurs launched into Fili and Kili's arms. "Fiwi! Kiwi!" The two young dwarf/elflings cheered, making the two princes chuckle.
"Adele, Terin," Thorin said, "Fili and Kili are going to watch you for a few hours while your mother and I head down to Esgaroth to handle some business with the men."
"Okay!" They chirped.
"No candy, no weapons, no fire, no caffeine, no swearing, no alcohol, no going into the mines, no climbing up the mountainside, no parties, no sliding down the banisters, and absolutely no going no where near the furnaces or boilers." With that, Thorin and Adelaide kissed their children's heads, said goodbye to their nephews, and left, waving over their shoulders.
Fili and Kili set their younger cousins down. "What would you two like to do?" Fili asked, smiling.
Terin and Adele looked at each other, and said at the same time; "CANDY!"
The young prince and princess ran for the kitchens, their part-elven speed making it hard for Kili and Fili to keep up with them. "Guys! Wait!"
"Your parents said no candy!"
By the time they reached the kitchen, the twins had stuffed their faces with half the candy that their parents had hidden on the highest shelf.
Fili and Kili managed to wrestle the candy away from them, and hide it again, but when they turned around, they were drinking coffee.
"Where'd they even get the coffee from?" Fili panicked, taking their mugs away.
The twins ran from the room, giggling and squealing.
A couple hours later, Fili and Kili looked as if someone had used their heads as toilet brushes, shoved their faces in fireplaces, and sent their clothes through a paper shredder, but Adele and Terin looked like they did before they decided to play hide 'n seek in the boiler room. There had very nearly been two golden statues of the royal twins.
"Come on you two!" Fili begged.
Kili dragged his hand through his gnarled hair. "Please come down from the chandelier!"
They swung by their knees, giggling and smiling as their cousins appeared to be standing upside-down. "No!" They squealed, swinging back and forth.
A few candles flew from the chandelier and lit the curtains on fire, making them laugh and climb down.
They ran from the hall, leaving a freaking out Fili and Kili behind them.

"What hap-"
"Don't. Even. Start," they grated out.
"Those children are devils," Kili shuddered, walking quickly away with Fili.
Thorin and Adelaide looked down at their son and daughter in their arms, who each kissed their cheeks. "Welcome home!" They chimed, making the parents smile.
"You two are grounded."
"Mommmyy!"
