Chapter 18

My high school years are now coming to an end. It's graduation day. The day everyone both wanted and dreaded. Me? Im excited. I got accepted to USC. I received my letter yesterday. I was so happy. I am. The only thing that made me sad is leaving Eleanor. Soon, we will be parents to our firstborn. Im kinda nervous yet delighted. Im having a family with Eleanor. Our baby will be the symbol of our love. Not a mistake.

I ran downstairs and met my smiling parents. They're both happy and proud of me. I chose the right career to study for college. I chose Marketing Management like my father. To be a businessman in huge companies and that sort of thing.

Mom hugged me first and Dad joined in. "Congratulations, son." They said in unison.

I laughed and said, "I never thought this would be so cheesy. But thanks."

We broke apart and Dad handed me a box.

I shook it and I knew what's in it.

"Thought of buying you a new car since you're going to college and-"

"Thanks Dad!" I said happily. I opened the box and discovered a key of Chevrolet. "No way." I grinned.

I ran outside and there it is. My new car. A dark blue Chevrolet van. Its beautiful.

I opened it and left to school without even saying bye to my parents. I know they will just follow.

When I arrived at school, people are already dashing around. I looked for Eleanor.

I saw her on a bench with our friends. She curled her hair with big curls. She also applied make up that made her look glowing. She's beautiful.

I approached her from behind and kissed her as she turned around.

"Hey." I said, "Happy Graduation Day?"

She laughed and said, "You too."

I hovered toward Gail who is sniggering with Grace.

"Congratulations to our class Valedictorian!" I said and opened my arms. She jumped, flashed me her widest grin and hugged me.

"Thank you Kenny." Gail said.

"You're great Gail." I complimented. "Now you're going to Oxford, please never forget about me."

"I never will." She said and shoved me. "Even Feight wont forget you, right Feight?"

"Huh?" Feight replied absent mindedly. She's texting her boyfriend again. "Of course I will. Ken's face is a nightmare." She laughed.

"Is your boyfriend coming?" I asked Feight.

"You can guess the answer Ken." Eleanor commented.

"Well, I guess not." I smirked.

"He's busy." Feight defended and smiled slyly.

"Lego guys. The ceremony is about to start." Grace said.

We are seated alphabetically and Im dozens away from Eleanor. But somehow I can steal glances at her.

When the emcee announced our valedictorian, Gail Bracken, everyone stood up and applaused her.

She gave her speech. Some even cried. Im glad and proud that Gail is my friend. She's very smart and pretty yet can manage to make people laugh. "High school is fun because I had fun. But Im also thrilled in going to college. There will be new challenges that I gotta face especially because I'll be going to Oxford University in London where a lot of Englishmen are around. I wish I would understand their words since they talk too fast and in a different accent. And not humiliate myself. Nevermind." That part made me snort.
