Bloody Flowers

~Chapter One~

Coughing.
Coughing was the only thing happening here. It hurted Hanahaki, as coughing up blood and flowers hurted her stomach, throat and lungs.
When will it end? Until I die?

Hanahaki woke up that morning, at three am. It was the 17th, a Tuesday in October, a week had past since Hanahaki gotten the disease. She went into the bathroom and coughed up more flower petals and blood. Why...why is it so p-painful? Hanahaki thought, continuing to cough up flowers and blood in the toilet. Even though this was the norm, it still made Hanahaki cry tears of pain. She was already up now, so she flushed the flower-filled toilet and got ready for school, even though it was too early for that. She decided to wear her dark purple jacket that day, so she can have tissues in it in case it happened during class.

It was five in the morning, Hanahaki's mother came in her room. Hanahaki stood up to hug her mother.
"Did you tell your friends yet?" Zyra asked
"N-no mother. I'm too scared to tell them."
"Well, tell them soon. Your surgery is scheduled to be in December."
"Will I even be able to make it till December?"
"Maybe...I hope so."
Zyra started tearing up as she let go of her precious daughter.
"Breakfast is downstairs."
Zyra left the room, as Hanahaki went back into the bathroom to brush her hair, her teeth and of course, to cough up more flowers and blood.

Hanahaki went inside the classroom, looking like she didn't get much sleep. She sat down next to Hyun-Ok.
"Hanahaki? Are you okay?"
"Yes, Hyun, I'm okay."
Naomi turned towards Hanahaki. "You don't look so good. You haven't been since a week ago."
"I'm fine! Y'all don't have to worry." Hanahaki smiled, until a crunched up ball of paper hit her behind the head. She turned around to see three girls giggling. Ho-sook, Hei-Ran and Hwa-Young. Hanahaki thought, as she remembered she was once friends with them until they backstabbed her by hurting Hyun-Ok. Hanahaki hated those three popular girls.
"Who are those girls?" Naomi asked when Hanahaki stared at the three popular freaks.
"Ho-sook, Hei-Ran and Hwa-Young, the popular girls who call themselves Hot Sunnies." Hyun-Ok said, looking down at their hands.
"Me and Hyun-Ok were friends with them, until they started bullying Hyun-Ok for being transgender." Hanahaki explained, turning towards Naomi. Naomi looked sorry for the two. "Must've been hell a while back for y'all."
"Yeah, Hanahaki can't get over them."
Ding
Dong.
Hanahaki looked up, class started. She saw that Koroshi wasn't sitting in the back like he used to. She saw that he was in front of Naomi. Keep it together, Hanahaki.
"All right class, today in science we're going to learn about how different genes in flowers work." The teacher said, explaining to the class.

Math was hell for Hanahaki. She couldn't handle that Koroshi was next to her. The class kept talking about some rumor. Hanahaki couldn't tell what this rumor was, and she didn't want to know anyways.

History was the only class that Koroshi wasn't in, yet the Hot Sunnies were, but she didn't care. She had Hyun-Ok and Naomi with her.
"Alright, my lovely angels!" The history teacher said, "It is time that we begin a group project! Each group will have three people. You will learn about the history of The Japanese."
I already know my group. Hanahaki thought, as the teacher finished explaining. "Pick your partners before lunch starts!"
Hanahaki went to Hyun-Ok and Naomi, and went in their group.
Lunch time occurred and so far, Hanahaki hasn't coughed up flowers and blood too serverely today. That's good I think.
Hanahaki went to get her lunch money from her school bag and went to get hot lunch.
"Can I get the Apple Sauce, 2 Chocolate Chip Cookies, An Apple Juice, Pizza with Chocolate Milk please?" Hanahaki asked the Lunch Lady.
"Weird combination of food but okay." The Lunch Lady said, giving the order to Hanahaki. Hanahaki grabbed her food and waited at the lunch table with her friends.
Naomi and Hyun-Ok made it towards Hanahaki, with their lunches.
"Hey, Hanahaki." Hyun-Ok said.
"Hmm?" Hanahaki spoke, putting pizza in her mouth.
"Ya know, if you're not feeling okay or anything, you can always tell us about it, m'kay?"
"Um, okay."
Hanahaki finished her pizza and sipped on her Apple Juice.
Naomi started talking, "I agree with Hyun, if there's anything wrong, we can help you."
Hanahaki nodded, as she went to grab her cookie and took a bite out of it. Hyun-Ok looked around to see that Koroshi appeared sitting next to Naomi. Koroshi didn't talk though, he just ate his food and left.
"What's his deal?" Hanahaki asked, sipping her chocolate milk.
"I dunno, there's this ru-" Hyun-Ok answered, but the bell rang, interrupting them. "I'll tell you when we get to class." Hyun-Ok and Naomi left, putting their lunch boxes away. Hanahaki finished her second cookie and threw the tray away.
Hanahaki walked up to her locker to check if her mom texted. She didn't, so she put the phone away.
"Heya, best friend!" Hanahaki turned around to see Ho-sook in front of her, with Hei-Ran and Hwa-Young.
"What do you want?" Hanahaki asked, closing her locker.
"Did you like- hear the rumors?" Hei-Ran asked, in her annoying teenaged voice.
"What rumors? I don't want to talk to you or hear these rumors." Hanahaki said, annoyed.
"We're gonna tell you anyways!" Hwa-Young said.
"There's a rumor going around that Koroshi likes a special someone!" Ho-sook said.
"I bet it's me!" Hwa-Young exclaimed.
"Good for you I don't ca-." Hanahaki said, until she saw Naomi...with Koroshi...
"Girls, be reasonable. Koroshi doesn't like anyone since Hyun-Ok existed!" Hei-Ran said, which made Hanahaki focus her attention on the Hot Sunnies.
"You leave Hyun out of this." Hanahaki said.
"What if Koroshi likes the new girl? That's a surprise!" Ho-sook said. The girls didn't shut up about the rumor. Hanahaki looked back at Naomi and Koroshi and saw them...hugging.
Hanahaki started to cough. The Hot Sunnies noticed.
"What's the matter? Sick? You should go home then!" Ho-sook teased.
Hanahaki grabbed a tissue from her pocket and put it over her mouth. She couldn't stop coughing. Hyun-Ok heard the coughing and ran up to Hanahaki.
"THE HECK DID YOU THREE DO?!" Hyun-Ok yelled at the Hot Sunnies.
"We didn't do crap!" Hei-Ran said.
"Ugh, let's go girls." Ho-sook said, as the Hot Sunnies went to class. Naomi was no where in sight, she went to class.
"Hanahaki!" Hyun-Ok cried.
"I'm- I'm fine. Hanahaki said. "I need to use the restroom."
"I'll wait for you."

More flowers, more damned flowers. Hanahaki thought as she coughed up more and more blood and flowers. She started to cry. The pain overwhelmed her a bit. Hyun-Ok got worried, so they went into the restroom. "Hanahaki?" Hyun-Ok asked. Hanahaki turned towards Hyun, her mouth having leaking out blood, a flower, blood and flower petals in the sink, Hanahaki's face filled with tears. Hanahaki turned back towards the sink, coughing up more blood and flowers.
"HANAHAKI!" Hyun-Ok ran towards Hanahaki. "How?! How do you have Hanahaki Disease?! How long has this been going on!?" Hyun-Ok asked Hanahaki.
"A w-week."
Hyun-Ok hugged Hanahaki. "Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"I was afraid...I didn't want you and Naomi to worry." Hanahaki wiped her face with a tissue. Hyun-Ok sighed. "Okay, Hanahaki, what are you going to do with the disease?"
"I don't know. My mom is planning surgery for me. I don't have to suffer from this anymore if I do!"
"Hanahaki, if you get rid of Hanahaki Disease with surgery...you won't feel love for whoever you like.."
Hanahaki thought for a second. I won't be able to love Naomi if I get the surgery?
"There's another way to cure it and that is to confess to whomever you love and see if they don't reject you. When are you getting the surgery?"
"In December."
"You have time to confess. Who is it do you like?"
"I can't say. I'm sorry."
Hyun-Ok looked at Hanahaki. "This is your choice, Hanahaki. C'mon, let's go back to class." Hyun-Ok and Hanahaki walked out of the restroom, Hanahaki regretting not telling Hyun that she loves Naomi...
