In 2012, Shreya Agarwal had walked through the doors of CID Mumbai with stars in her eyes and fire in her heart. Fresh-faced and fearless, she'd believed justice was black and white, that good always triumphed, and that she'd found her home among heroes.
She'd been wrong about everything except one thing—the connection she'd felt with Senior Inspector Daya. It was a bond that transcended words, deeper than partnership, stronger than friendship. Neither had dared speak its name, but it lived in the spaces between their conversations, in the way he watched her back, in the way she trusted him completely.
Then 2016 arrived like a storm. Her mother's failing heart became the family's failing hope, and desperate parents arranged what they believed would be their daughter's salvation—marriage to Siddharth, a good man who could give her the stability they feared police work never would.
Shreya had agreed, torn between duty and desire, between the life she wanted and the life expected of her. And Daya—Daya had stepped back, believing his silence was noble, that Siddharth could offer her something he never could.
