You volunteered to stay put and spy on the Calypso Twins while the Vault Hunters took out the psychos and bandits. They thought you were doing it for intel, but you really stayed back for Troy. You had known each other for a while.
When you two first met, he was infuriating—always putting on an act in front of the camera and to please his sister. Never once had you gotten to see the real him until, one day, he spared you. Tyreen had dealt with Lilith, so it was just you and him.
You aimed your gun up and shot at him, but his robotic arm deflected the bullets. He watched in disinterest as they bounced off. Not a second later, he grabbed your gun. You watched as he crushed it easily, dropping it next to you. He leaned over to your height, a slight smirk adorning on his face as he tilted his head.
"Now isn't that a bummer." He pouted. Even though it was meant to be mocking, you couldn't help but blush at how adorable it looked. You stumbled backwards, but he made no advances towards you. Instead, he turned his back and waved as he began walking away.
"I'll shoot you!" You warned with a scowl. He simply turned his head towards you and let out an amused chuckle.
"You'd look much better with a smile!" He called out. You gasped, only then having noticed the robotic floating cam recording you. But you never saw the video put online. He kept it for himself.
Your encounters always ended with teasing remarks like this until soon, it became the norm. Whenever you saw him, you could feel your chest tighten with a lingering want, but you never knew what for.
"You're useless, Troy! What have you been doing! They're taking out all of our cult and you're just.." Tyreen threw up her arms dramatically "Doing nothing about it!"
Troy seemed annoyed, "Of course I have. I managed to catch two of them off guard, isn't that enough?" Tyreen laughed in disbelief and shook her head.
"Isn't that enough—Of course it isn't! You wouldn't have even been able to do that without my helping you! You're useless! You can't do anything without me!" You watched with wide eyes as Tyreen reached up to grip at Troy's throat, sucking the power out of him.
"Ty..!" He growled, using his robotic hand to grip on to her shoulder in a warning. "You need me!" He struggled to speak. Your muscles tensed, wanting to spring into action. You stopped when you noticed Troy spot you, threatening you to stay there.
"You're nothing but a parasite. A mistake. You weren't meant to inherit the Sirens Mark. You're defective." She scoffed and let go of his neck. He gasped in a gulp of air. "Consider yourself lucky. The only reason I keep you around is because of blood. You're the muscle, I'm the brains. Got it?" She began walking away.
"Then why is it that the Vault Hunters are winning?" Troy snarled under his breath. Tyreen stopped walking.
"What was that?" Her voice held promise.
".. Nothing."
"Feel free to tag along when you decide not to be a waste of time, brother." The word "brother" sounded sour and distasteful coming from her.
When she left, you walked over to Troy as if approaching an unhinged animal. Troy looked in thought.
"Dad, I'm scared.. I don't want to kill anything!" Troy remembered himself crying when he was just a child. His father crossed his arms before releasing a pair of Skags that were enclosed in a cage.
"You'll do just fine, son. You have siren blood in you. If your sister can fight for herself, so can you. Defend yourself, boy." He stood, watching as Troy began to back away from the creeping Skags. "Shoot them."
"No!" Troy wept.
"Kill them!" He shouted. The booming of his voice triggered the Skags to attack. Troy's screams pierced the air horrifically as a Skag latched it's mouth on to his arm, tearing it off violently. Another jumping on top of him and scarring his face.
His father got out his gun and shot the Skags with little mercy. He waited for Troy to get up, but when he didn't, he clicked his tongue and shook his head in disappointment.
"Dad!" Troy remembered weeping for him to come back, but he never did. He passed out and woke up without an arm, but at least it was bandaged.
When Troy finally acknowledged you, you had settled yourself down on the ground beside him. He looked down at his Siren Markings and laughed bitterly.
"I tried covering them up once, you know." He pursed his lips. "It didn't work." He slouched over, resting his arms on his knees. "Can't cover 'em, can't scratch it off, nothing ever seemed to work." And how ugly did it make him feel to have it on him.
"Why do you let her treat you like that.." You finally managed to speak your mind. He shrugged his shoulders.
"I know she doesn't mean it. She's just stressed. Plus, if I leave, I'll be leaving my fans too," he joked. You glared in annoyance.
"They're not your fans. They don't have the capacity to even think for themselves. Don't keep doing this to yourself!" You pleaded, watching how his Adams apple bobbed and how he clenched his hands into fists.
"I can't betray my sister. She's all I have. I'm all she has." He bit his lip before shaking his head. With a single glance your way, he stiffened. "If she ever finds out about you, I.."
He seemed so conflicted. Whenever he was around you, he's able to breath. He doesn't have to put up a front. And the way you traced over his Siren Marks as if he were some beautiful creature, it was enough to make him want to stay near you forever. He didn't know why the thought of losing you made his heart skip a beat from fear.
"Just a little bit longer," he asked and he looked up into the sky.
