Chapter 1
Patience heard Esme sigh as she took out two cups of coffee in the cold winter night. She opened the front door and saw Esme sitting out in the front porch and looking out at the shinning stars. Patience smiled and handed her a cup of coffee as she sat down next to her.
"What's wrong, my lovely genius?" Patience asked.
"I don't know what to do," Esme answered. "Will I choose the right path?"
Patience stroked Esme's hair as she took a deep breath. She knew what Esme was worried about. She was just sixteen years old, but she was faced with a big decision. She wasn't sure to go to a faraway college or somewhere near to stay close to her boyfriend, Tanner, who she was completely in love with. Esme was a complete genius at her age, which got her accepted to many colleges at just the age of sixteen. Tanner was seventeen, but he still had a long way to go in high school.
Patience and Esme were supposed to go collage touring the next morning, but Esme wasn't too sure if she wanted somewhere that was far from her mother and boyfriend. Patience took a sip of coffee and remembered when she was faced with a similar decision. At that time, she wasn't sure if she was making the right decision and taking the right path, but she chose the one that she thought was best for her. There was always a small regret about her decision, but that was now in the past.
"You will choose the right path for you," Patience mentioned. "Whatever you chose will be the right one for you. No matter where you pick, I'll be behind you one hundred percent, cheering you on."
Esme smiled. "Thanks, mom."
"Finish your coffee, tomorrow we're going to wake up early and meet with Ruth."
Patience stood up and as she was going to walk inside, Esme held the bottom of her dress, stopping her. She looked at her and Esme looked at the floor.
"Is something else wrong?" Patience asked.
"You told me the story once," Esme answered. "That you once faced a similar situation."
Patience nodded. "Yeah, it was a long time ago."
"Can you tell me the story again?"
Patience smiled and nodded again. "Sure, if it'll help you."
Patience sat down next to Esme again and looked up at the sky too. "I was seventeen years old one summer. I was really dedicated to my studies and doing my best to enter USC."
Esme smiled. "The school that you work in now."
"Yes, back then I didn't care about love or anything else. I just wanted to reach my goal... but then I met this odd boy..."
Patience sighed in relief as she finished writing her research paper. She clicked save and smiled. At last she wrote Patience Felicity Minett. She felt a huge weight off her shoulders. She was going to be able to enjoy her summer vacation now. As she grabbed her cup of coffee, she saw someone sitting down across from her. Patience smiled, thinking it was Ruth, her best friend. However, her smile quickly faded, it was someone she had never seen before. He sat very confidently, and three guys stood behind him.
"So, want to go out and play?" he asked.
Patience raised her eyebrows, trying to figure out what was going on. The guy wore a white shirt and black jeans. He wore a black beanie on his head, and he smiled.
"So, stop pretending like you're studying in this coffee shop and go on a date with me," he said and with one finger, closed her computer.
Patience looked at him with looks that could kill. He was surprised and leaned back on his seat. She was glad that she saved it before he closed the computer, what would have happened if it wasn't saved? Her life would have been over. He nervously chucked.
"What's wrong?" he asked. "Seems like you're actually studying."
"Do I know you?" Patience asked.
Now he was the one that looked confused. Before he could answer, someone asked, "Patience, what's wrong?" He looked at Patience and back at the girl that stood behind her.
"Patience?" he asked. "I thought your name was Kelda."
"You have the wrong sister," Ruth answered.
"You're looking for my twin sister, Kelda," Patience said and pointed to a building across the street. "She's in the arcade with her boyfriend. You can look for her there."
"Twin sister? Are you kidding me?" he asked. "You don't have to reject me like that."
Patience sighed in annoyance and stood up. "Go look for her over there and don't confuse us again."
Patience grabbed her things and put them inside her backpack. She turned around and left without saying another word. Ruth grabbed her things and followed Patience out.
"Do you know who that was?" Ruth hissed as they stepped out of the coffee shop.
"Am I supposed to know?" Patience asked.
"You really don't care about the popular kids, do you? That's Carlisle Droit."
"Ah, I've heard of him."
"See! Wasn't he cute?"
"He's a troublemaker. I hope I don't see him again."
Carlisle looked at Patience and Ruth walk away from the window. Patience's long brown hair moved from side to side as she walked. As he stood up, he noticed that Kelda walked out of the arcade while holding hands with a boy. Carlisle was surprised, they really were twins. He smiled, he wanted to know more about Patience.
