Chapter 2
Patience set the table for breakfast. Once she finished making coffee, Esme walked into the dining room as she yawned. Patience smiled and sat down.
"What time is godmother and Cody coming?" Esme asked as she sat down.
Patience looked at her watch. "They should be here in thirty minutes," she answered.
"Why are they coming? I mean, I'm glad, but Cody is six years old."
"Ruth wants Cody to have these universities in mind."
Patience and Esme laughed. They felt bad for Cody; Ruth was already pressuring him to look at colleges.
"We should arrive at San Francisco State University right on time," Patience said.
Esme laughed. "Of course, we will. We're going to visit tomorrow."
"Still, it's a long ride from Los Angeles. This is a road trip, plus you'll see mountains views and hopefully beautiful scenery that you love so much."
Esme nodded. "I hope so. It's going to be fun. So, tell me what happened afterwards."
Patience relaxed in her chair. "Well... it wasn't long after that Kelda convinced me to go to a beach party with her and her then boyfriend. I wasn't into parties, but she promised that I would be able to go read and relax. I went and I didn't expect to see him again."
"There's a lot of cute guys," Ruth mentioned as she sat next to Patience. Patience rolled her eyes and turned the page of her book. There was a lot of people from their high school. Patience didn't recognize most of them, but she didn't care either.
"Are you going to read all day?" Ruth asked.
"It's getting good," Patience replied. "Plus, this will be the first book that the teacher will make us read."
Ruth sighed. "Always ahead."
Patience smiled. "Of course."
"Don't you at least want to get your feet wet?"
Patience shook her head. "No, you go ahead."
Ruth nodded and walked towards the water. Patience smiled and put her headphones back on. As she looked back at her book, she felt weight near her feet. Someone sat down next to her.
"What happened now?" Patience asked as she took her headphones out and looked up.
Patience was expecting Ruth, but she saw Carlisle instead. He was shirtless and wore shorts. He smiled at her.
"Kelda is somewhere walking with her boyfriend," Patience said.
"I know," Carlisle replied. "I'm not looking for her, I was looking for you."
"We have nothing to do with each other. Let's not see each other again."
Patience shut her book close and set it aside. She stood up; she didn't feel like reading anymore. He ruined her mood.
"I like your attitude," Carlisle mentioned as he stood up. "I'm making you my girlfriend."
Patience looked at him and laughed. "Dream on," she told him.
