Chapter 7

Patience couldn't believe that she was driving Esme to her first day of school in UCLA. Patience was glad that Esme was happy with her decision. She thought that the school was best for her. Tanner couldn't be any happier either. Patience saw as Esme told him her decisions and his eyes brighten up and smiled widely. Patience recognized that look, it was a similar look that Carlisle gave her.

"I know you're going to make a lot of friends," Patience said, "but remember that tomorrow we're going to visit Kelda."

"Of course, I know," Esme replied.

"I'm trying not to cry, I'm so proud of you."

Esme smiled shyly. "Don't cry mom, you're not a crier."

"I can't help it; I can't believe I'm driving you to your first day of school. I still remember the first time I dropped you off at daycare and at kindergarten, and-"

"Mom!" Esme laughed. "It's not a big deal!"

"It is for me and Kelda. My last class today ends at 3, so call me when you want me to pick you up."

"My class ends at five. I can take the bus home," Esme said.

Patience shook her head stubbornly. "No, I want to pick you up on your first day."

Esme smiled and nodded. After dropping Esme off at UCLA, she headed to USC. She couldn't believe how time had passed. She smiled; she was very happy for Esme. She looked happy too. After she taught all her classes, she sat in her office. There was a knock on the door and Ruth walked in. She sat on the chair across Patience's desk

"How was Esme's first day?" Ruth asked.

"Seems like it's going well. She called me after her first class, she liked it so far," Patience answered.

"Are you going to visit Kelda tomorrow?"

Patience nodded. "Yea, Tanner is going to come with us too."

"I really like him, he's a good kid."

"Yeah, seems like he really cares for Esme."

"You know what Cody asked me the other day?"

       "What?"

"He wanted to know about my first love."

       Patience smiled. "Really?"

"Yeah! I told him that my first love was his father, but he doesn't believe me. He thinks I have a story like yours!"

Patience laughed. "But it's the truth."

"That's what I tell him. I'm the one that's telling the truth to my kid and he thinks I'm lying. You're the only lying and Esme believes you."

"I didn't lie," Patience replied as she rolled her eyes. "I just didn't tell her the whole story. I told you, I'll tell everything once she older. And anyways, she doesn't have to know that part."

"I think she should, but your daughter, your decision."

"Yes, thank you. I fought hard for her, so I'll decide."

Esme walked into her last class of the day, earth science. It was a class that she was forced to take. It was a long day and she couldn't wait to go home and hear Tanner's voice. Once she walked into class, she noticed that it was full. A lot of people wanted to add. Esme took her seat and texted Tanner. He was bored at their high school and couldn't wait to see her. Esme couldn't help but smile.

She put her phone away when she noticed that the class went quiet. She looked at the front of the class. She was surprised by how young and handsome the professor was. It seemed like some of the girls were surprised too. He was tall, dark hair, well shaved, and wore a suit. He had a very muscular body.

"Hi," said the professor. "I'm Professor Droit. I'm going to pass the syllabus. If you're trying to add the class, please don't take one. I printed out enough for the people enrolled."

Esme grabbed one and passed it back. She sat quietly in her head and listened to him speak. He seemed tough, but he made life science sound interesting. Esme was looking forward to taking his class. As he let everyone leave and the students that wanted to add his class walked towards him, Esme grabbed the syllabus to put into her backpack. She turned it to the first page and something it said caught her attention. She couldn't believe it.

Esme waited for all the students to leave. She sat down in a seat in the front row and waited quietly. Once she was the last one in the room, she stood up.

"Like I told everyone before," Professor Droit said, "my class is full, but keep coming for a week. People usually drop the class and then I'll be able to add more."

"I'm already in your class," Esme replied.

"Oh. Then, how may I help you?" he asked as she put his things away in his bag.

"Actually, I might be mistaking you for the wrong person, but I just have to ask."

       "Yes?"

"Do you know Patience Minett? Her whole name is Patience Felicity Minett."

Professor Droit froze and let the last notebook fall into his bag. He slowly looked up at her and stared at her. He hadn't heard that name in a long time.

"Who are you?" Professor Droit asked very suspiciously.

"Oh, sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Esme Minett."

He stared at her and noticed all their feature similarities. From the brown hair and brown eyes. Their smiles were similar too. He was speechless for a moment.

"You're her daughter," Professor Droit said. "You look just like her."

"Yes." Esme smiled and replied, but then quickly tried to fix any misunderstanding that he might have. "And no."

"What?" Professor Droit asked, feeling confused.

"She's the one that raised me, and I call her mom, but she's actually my aunt."

Professor Carlisle Droit looked at him, not understanding what was going on. Esme felt like she needed to sit him down, it was a long story.
