Chapter 6

Patience laid happily in her bed. She had a date with Carlisle, came home to find her acceptance letter to Columbia University. She would be able to stay in New York and stay with Carlisle. That thought a lot about that decision. She had already gotten her acceptance letter to USC and was happy for it. But she wanted to stay with Carlisle. Unfortunately, Carlisle didn't get accepted to any of the schools that they applied together. They knew that his only option was to go to community college and move on from there. Patience didn't mind, at least they were going to be in the same state.

Kelda knocked and walked into Patience's room. "Did you hear that dad wants to hold a congratulation dinner for us and his girlfriend?" Kelda asked as she laid down next to Patience. She nodded, she had met her father's girlfriend a few times, but she didn't like her. She didn't know if it was because she wished that her parents would get back together one day or if it was because his girlfriend really was a bad person.

"He says to invite Ryan and Carlisle too," Kelda said. "A whole family dinner."

"Family?" Patience replied. "I don't think so."

Kelda knew Patience's dislike of Ryan, but she chose to ignore it and Patience didn't bring it up. They had an argument; Kelda didn't understand why she didn't like Ryan. At the end they didn't agree to anything and Patience decided that she wouldn't make it her business. Whatever Kelda did was going to be her own problem, she wasn't going to help her out.

"Dad seems pretty serious about her," Kelda said.

Patience rolled her eyes. "I know. So, are you excited for beauty school?"

"Yes! Ryan is happy about it too."

Patience was going to tell her to do what was best for her, but she decided it was best not to. She herself was considering staying to stay with Carlisle. She had no right to talk.

"When you get married to Carlisle, let me do your makeup," Kelda said.

Patience stood up. "What? What the hell are you talking about? We're not getting married."

"Not yet, but we all know that both of you are crazy about each other. It's bound to happen sooner or later."

Patience tighten her lips in order not to smile. "Well, if you're successful with your career, then I'll consider it."

"Come on! I'm already pretty great! You loved your prom makeup and Carlisle couldn't stop staring at you."

"You stood out with your bright orange dress."

"And I still won prom queen."

Patience clapped. "Yes, no surprise there. I helped you study in order to qualify to even enter the competition. So, doing my makeup was you repaying your debt."

Kelda looked at her, her eyes were asking if Patience was serious. They stared at each other and started to laugh at their conversation. Patience loved moments like those with Kelda. They were so different that there were only a few times when they actually felt like twin sisters.

The next day Patience was surprised about her excitement for the family dinner. She thought about it all night, she was going to pick Columbia University. She had made her final decision. After telling everyone at dinner, she planned to accept her acceptance with Carlisle by her side.

"You're going home?" Carlisle asked. "I thought we were going to hang out for a bit and then head to the restaurant together."

"That was the original plan, but I want to go home and change. Next week we don't have P.E. because of graduation, so we had to run extra hard today. I'm all sweaty."
