"Uh, I'd like a... Hold on, let me think. Uh, how about a medium, no, a large iced chai latte." Cin was standing in the local café in Drendramee, a quiet town that hardly had anything that would make a good story for a journalist like her. She worked for the newspaper called The Drendramee Anomaly, the name being ironic because of how average the town was. Life was fairly pathetic here in Drendramee, but at least she got paid for writing about the boring place, and that was all she really needed. But none of that was what she was worried about now. Right now, she was focused on buying some tea.
The café itself wasn't particularly great either, being decorated with dull paintings of coffee evenly covering the mocha brown walls. The chairs were made of a black metal and the glass tables had scratches from years of use and coffee mugs scraping against them, revealing just how often people came here. There was a elderly couple sitting in the back, enjoying the pastries the café served and a young teen drinking coffee by himself at another table, so the place was mostly empty. After Cin said her order, the young blond boy at the cash register let out a sigh, clearly annoyed by her. Cin watched curiously as her drink was made, staring like a cat as the ice cubes plunked into her drink. She was known for her curiosity, and was inquisitive to a fault. "Here's your drink. That's $4.50." She snapped out of her thoughts and reached into her jacket pocket pulling out her black wallet. Because the café was local, they only took cash, so she had to fish around her wallet for a five dollar bill. This made her seem even more annoying to the cashier, wasting more of his time, so she hurried to take out the dollar. "Have a nice day." Said the boy as she gave him the dollar and took her drink. He gave her the change and she walked quickly to an empty table in the back.
She let out an exhausted sigh, then took a sip of her tea which the boy might have spit in. While looking out the window she knew all she had to do was wait for an interesting article idea to hit her. She was just beginning to focus when her cellphone buzzed quietly. She checked to see what it was, and saw it was a text from Hailey. Hailey Fletcher also worked for the Drendramee Anomaly, working as a photographer and was friends with Cin. Often she called Cin by her full name, which was Cinquain, and was the only person Cin trusted enough to do that. The text read:
'Cinquain, meet me at the library, this is URGENT'.
Cin knew that meant only one thing: A story. She quickly grabbed her tea and left the café in a rush. She burst through the glass doors and ran to her silver Pontiac Solstice that was waiting in the parking lot. She unlocked the doors, got in, turned the key and took off to the library.
