Someone is at the door

This is currently happening and I don't know what to do. Someone just lightly knocked on the door as I was eating in the kitchen. I didn't answer because I didn't want to. Know I keep hearing someone rattling with the door and walking around. I am hiding behind my counter but if they come to my backyard through the gate, they will see me. What do I do?
