"Oh my god, it's freezing in here!" I complained, curling inside my warm blanket on the sofa. November was ending soon and the weather was lowering rapidly.
"I know, I know, let me just turn on the heat," my dad said who was shivering as well. I felt a comforting gust of warm air and wiggled in my blanket in happiness.
"You know the Hemmings' plumbing suddenly stopped working this morning? Poor them," Mum said worriedly.
"Oh wow, did they call the plumber?" Dad responded.
"No, Mr Hemmings is really determined on fixing it himself. Either that or he's just going to wait until it fixes on its own," Mum said.
"So what are they going to do if they need to shower or something?"
"Helllooooo, neighbours!" Mr Hemmings' voice boomed when he and the rest of his family burst through our door.
"Oh hello! How are you guys?" Mum said, welcoming our guests. I noticed that each of them had luggage.
"Hi, I know I've told you about our water situation, and I was wondering if it'd be okay if we could stay here until we figure out a way to get it back," Mrs Hemmings asked, kindly.
Wait ... this means ...
I turned my attention to Luke, who was looking at me with an amused eyebrow raised.
NOOOOOOOOOOO NO NO NO OH MY GOD THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING.
"Of course! We'd be more than happy to share our house. Come in, come in. You can sleep here for as long as you'd like!" my mum gestured them inside.
"This is going to be so much fun! We can enjoy the end of autumn together!" my dad happily paraded through the living room.
"And I'm sure this would be a great way for the kids to bond as well!" Mr Hemmings smiled brightly at us.
"Oh don't worry, Dad, it'll be a blast," Luke smirked.
"Hmmm ... So there's a guest room upstairs, but it's extremely crowded and messy and full of junk. Are you okay with sleeping in there?" Dad asked Luke's parents.
"Of course!" Mrs Hemmings piped.
"But there won't be any room for Luke to sleep with you guys ... Naomi! You can share your room with Luke, can't you?" Mum suggested. I nearly started choking on my spit.
"Uhhh I really don't think that would be the best choice. Right, Daddy?" I elbowed my dad.
"It's okay! They've slept together before!" my dad shrugged.
"Yeah when we were kids!" I whined.
"Well I trust you two. It'll be fine," Dad said.
"But ... But ... Can't Luke just sleep on the sofa?" I plead.
"Aw Naomi doesn't want to bond," Luke pouted.
Well damn right I don't want to bond! In what world would I want to share a room with the devil?
"Come on, Naomi, be a good neighbour and share your room," Mum said. I rolled my eyes, knowing I couldn't win.
"Fine,"
My parents cooked a nice warm meal for us and I ate it in dismay, still upset about having to share my room with Luke.
"I can't tell you how good it feels to catch up like this again," Mr Hemmings said after dinner, stretching his arms.
"It really does! And thank you again for letting us stay here," Mrs Hemmings said.
"It's no problem. Well it's getting late and you two have school tomorrow, so why don't you take Luke into your room and get him settled in, Naomi?" Mum suggested. I nodded and walked up the stairs, Luke following.
"So you know where everything is, right?" I said as I opened the door into my room and let Luke inside. I opened a small door in the hallway and took out a few blankets and pillows and walked back into my room. "Hey get off," I said to Luke who was lying comfily on my bed. I set the blankets and pillows on the floor, "You'll be sleeping here,"
"Nahh. How about I sleep here and you sleep on the floor?" Luke said, his eyes still closed.
"Or ... How about you comply and sleep on the floor so that way I don't have to throw you out the window?" I said sweetly.
"Somebody's vicious," Luke muttered as he stood up. I gave him a smug smile before I lay in my bed. I was already in sweatpants so I decided to just head straight to sleep.
I was about to close my eyes when I looked to my right and saw Luke undoing his belt. I screamed, causing him to jump. "What was that for?!" Luke barked.
"What are you doing?!" I yelled at him, covering my eyes just in case he took anything off.
"I'm changing! Do you seriously expect me to sleep in these jeans?"
"Oh then here's an idea, why don't you CHANGE SOMEWHERE ELSE?!" I screamed.
"Okay okay quit yelling!" Luke said, taking his lump of clothes out the room. Once I heard the door close, I lay back in bed and sighed. This was going to be a long night.
I turned off the lights and crawled back into bed. A few moments later, I heard Luke walk in and I tried my best to stay still and make it seem like I was sleeping.
I heard Luke toss and turn uncomfortably on the blankets and I decided to ignore it and turn the other side. A few minutes passed when I heard him speak. "Naomi?"
I opened my eyes for a second but closed them shut immediately. Just don't talk to him, Naomi just sleep and let your mind drift to sleep ... "Naomi are you asleep?"
I suddenly then heard him get up from the floor. I felt him slowly and carefully climb into my bed, squeezing on to the mattress. Oh no no no no stop stop he can't do this ...
I tried sending him the hint by scooting closer to him and gently nudging him off the other direction, but Luke just scooted closer into me as well. Oh my god it's so crowded! Does he not remember that this is a SINGLE BED?!
Luke carefully lifted up the blanket I was using up and squeezed inside of it so we were even closer and squished together than we were. I opened my eyes to find Luke a few centimetres from my face, staring at me intently.
"GET OFF MY BED!!!!" I screamed as I kicked him to the floor where he landed with a loud thud and a cry of pain.
Ugh, this is going to be a long week. Week? Month?! Year?!
I dug my face into my pillow and cried myself to sleep.
