My Newest Obsession

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a musical person. I love plays and I love music, but musicals were never anything that I watched or enjoyed. Sure, Disney movies had the music, but that was Disney. I'm talking MUSICALS.

Musicals, for examples, like The Sound Of Music or Rocky Horror Show. Another one I hear about a lot is Heathers.

The only musical I had ever watched was Little Shop of Horrors, as my mom liked it.

I was recently in Shrek the Musical as baby Fiona.

I wasn't going to research any more musicals because I wasn't interested.

HOWEVER, I was watching a comedy special called Glitter Room by Katherine Ryan and a part of the play was talking about Hamilton. She sang portions of Say No to This and I swear to God, that piqued my interest. I had no idea that Hamilton told the story into his infidelity. So, I began listening to the soundtrack on Spotify.

Low and behold, I've fallen in love. As soon as the first song, Alexander Hamilton, came on, I was hooked. I haven't seen the play and I had never done any research on Hamilton. But while listening to the soundtrack, I heard the history and the story. By the end of the two hours and twenty-two minutes, I was crying. I'm not afraid to admit that I am extremely emotional and sensitive.

Today, I've memorized the whole song Satisfied because I want to use it when I need a musical song in school. Besides, Angelica Schuyler is selfless and something tells me she's beautiful. The voice in the musical was so strong and beautiful, so I'm willing to bet the actress is as well. Eliza must be gorgeous too, but something about Angelica captures my interest.

Anyway, my latest obsession is Hamilton. And I want to go see the play so bad. It goes to Atlanta in 2020 so I'm hoping to save enough money to go see it then and still go to the UK during the summer. Here's to hoping. Haha.

Another one of my favorite songs on Hamilton has to be Meet Me Inside. You can just feel the aggravation Hamilton feels and the protectiveness of Washington.

And I also love That Would Be Enough. The love between Eliza and Alexander kills me. Goals honestly. It's almost like me and my boyfriend. Except we aren't worried about one of us dying due to war.

Also, I love King George's song, You'll Be Back. Like, it's so funny. "I will kill your friends and family to remind you of my love. Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, daya, da, da" etc. Like, wow. Haha.

Another one of my favorite songs is Guns and Ships. Lafayette kills me. I love it.

Another one is Say No to This. Obviously.

Then the sad ones. Blow Us All Away; Stay Alive (reprise); The World Was Wide Enough; and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. Those all made me cry.

I was so mad at Burr and that other dude when I heard the songs. So AnGrY! But I listened to the Soundtrack again and realized that Burr was terrified Hamilton was going to shoot him. But of course not. Hamilton aimed at the sky. I cried again when I listened to it. Burr regretted it. It makes me so upset.

Then Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. Don't get me started. Eliza's part absolutely destroyed me. The whole part. The soldier part, the Washington Monument, Slavery, and, of course, the orphanage. Ugh, I'm crying again just thinking about it. Bless Hamilton. What an emotional, historic, and amazing piece of art.
