Maeme sweeps her arm out in front of her, a cloud of dirt rolling away its wake, disguising the spikes jutting up from the ground. Deidara leaps into the air to avoid them and sends several clay birds in her direction. She dodges them with ease as they explode behind her. A giant spike rises from the ground under her feet as she rushes up the length to Deidara's new perch on a huge clay bird hovering in the air. As he tosses a clay centipede toward her, Maeme jumps off the tip of the spike and tackles him on the bird. The bird begins to fall from the sky while they both struggle to take each other down. Maeme finally gains leverage and uses the momentary advantage to kick him off the edge with a well planted foot to the chest. She jumps to the safety of a nearby tree as the bird hits the ground and explodes.
Once she sees Deidara getting to his feet, she sits on the large branch and leans her back against the tree trunk to survey the damage. He joins her a moment later grumbling about losing to her again.
"It's not my fault. I've got more experience than you. I do like the flying bird though. Definitely might come in handy." She comments as she starts to pick clumps of dirt and clay out of her hair.
"So, how are you able to manipulate the ground like that?" he asks, his blue eyes shining excitedly.
"I dunno," she shrugs. "It's just always been something I could do."
"Aw, look at the little dirt dwellers. How precious."
Maeme and Deidara look down to find Kisame standing at the base of the tree. She twitches her fingers, stirring up a large cloud of dirt around the swordsman. As he curses her, she smirks back at him before asking what he needed.
"Your lover is looking for you. I'm tired of hearing him huff."
Deidara's face darkens at the mention of Itachi. It had been a few months since Itachi defeated him and he joined the group, but Deidara still held a deep hatred for the raven haired man.
"I still don't see how you could be with him, un." He grumbles. "Sasori-danna is a much better choice."
"There's a lot you missed out on. Maybe one day you'll understand. Good job on training today though. You're getting better." She offers him a small smile as she gets to her feet and stretches.
Deidara watches in mild surprise as she leans forward and jumps onto Kisame's back as he walks away.
"What the hell!? Get off me you little demon!" Kisame shouts, flailing around in efforts to dislodge her.
"But where's the fun in that?"
Deidara chuckles and shakes his head, his thoughts swirling around the blonde.
Maeme finds Itachi in his room, a book in his hand like usual. He smiles at her as she closes the door and begins to search his drawers for a shirt. Once she chooses one, she comes to his bedside to kiss his forehead, but he latches onto her wrist in an effort to get her to join him on the bed. She shakes her head and moves back, telling him that she's too dirty to get into bed. "Well, you would be dirty again anyway..." He reasons, his voice low and husky.
"Mm, as tempting as it is, there's a difference between that dirty and being literally covered in dirt. I've been training Sasori's partner."
"I figured that's where you were since you weren't around. How is it going?"
"He is improving pretty quickly. I think he is the only partner I've ever not wanted to kill." Maeme explains as she heads to the bathroom, pausing in the doorway to add a final comment. "He still hates you though."
She laughs at his sour expression as she closes the door behind her. She turns the water on then strips from her training outfit. The once black fabric looks tan from their fight. She sighs and places them in the basket before stepping into the hot stream of water. Arms circle Maeme's waist as she rinses the soap from her hair a few minutes later, her eyes widening in shock at the contact. One hand starts to roam upward as a soft kiss is planted on her shoulder.
"You are really impatient today, aren't you?" She hums, surrendering to the touch.
"I can't help that I crave you." he replies before gently sinking his teeth into the flesh of her neck, eliciting a soft moan in response.
Itachi looks down at the sleeping blonde, her head resting on his lap as one of his hands runs lazily through her damp locks. His other hand supports the book he'd been desperately trying to read for an hour, but his attention continued to stray until he'd read the same line six times in a row. He sighs and gently tosses the book onto the bedside table. It had been several months since the confrontation with Sasori over Maeme but he found himself still worrying that he would lose her to him. She constantly reassured him that she loved only him and their relationship stayed the same, but the nagging doubt ate away at him every time she would leave for a mission or Sasori would call for her. There was also the matter of the oath she'd made. A lot of questions were answered with her confession but he didn't like the fact that his lover's life could easily end because of the infuriating puppet master. Sasori's new partner Deidara made Itachi uneasy as well since the pair got along so well and Maeme spent a good chunk of her free time with the blond. Shaking away the intrusive thoughts, he sighs and attempts to move her head onto the pillow so he can lay beside her. The door crashes open, startling him and making Maeme mumble threats in her sleep. Itachi glares at Kisame and hisses for him to be quiet.
"Sorry, Sasori is looking for her and doesn't sound too happy with her."
"Tell him that she is sleeping right now."
"No, I'll go. I will be back shortly." The pair turn to Maeme who is yawning and attempting to move her hair out of her face.
Deidara nods a cheerful greeting to Maeme as she trudges into her old room. She nods back before focusing her attention on the man settled at the desk in the corner. He doesn't speak immediately so she leans back against the door and clears her throat. Sasori glances over at her for a second, then returns to the poison in front of him without speaking.
"Did I really get out of bed for you to ignore me completely?" She snaps, crossing the room to place herself between Sasori and the desk. "Speak or I'm going back to sleep."
"You neglected your duties today." He answers, lightly pushing her away to resume work.
Maeme's expression deadpans making Deidara chuckle in amusement.
"What did I not do? I trained your partner since you don't seem to find it worth your time to do so."
"You were supposed to gather the herbs I needed for this poison."
"Are you kidding me?" She spits out after a long silence. "Are you seriously kidding me? I woke up for this."
"If your mind wasn't so focused on-"
"Let me stop you there before this young man witnesses blood shed. Have you left this room today?"
"No."
"So you didn't look on the kitchen counter where I lay out the herbs for poisons to dry as you have asked me to for years now?"
Sasori stops placing liquids into the vial and hesitantly says no.
"If you had done those things instead of assuming I don't listen to you, you would've found everything you needed on that counter top and I could've continued sleeping peacefully. Now, stop being an idiot. I'm going back to sleep. Goodnight Deidara."
