"I must kill you now."
Her heart began to race as her eyes widen with dismay. Her hands clenched unto to the silk sheets until she felt her nails against her clenched palms. As if it were a shield, she brought the fabric up to her chest, trembling as she did.
"What do you mean, w-what's going on?" She asked, her voice shaking as she looked at the woman with unbidden terror.
The woman just smiled at her, her eyes devoid of empathy. She let out a condescending chuckle and shook her head. "You've been asleep for so long that you can't even remember that this is what you wanted in the first place." She said, walking towards her until her knees met the edge of the bed. Resting her hands against the smooth fabric, she leaned over and grinned. Then, like a feral feline, she began to climb the bed on all fours. Her eyes narrowed into predatorial slits, and she licked her lips.
It sent chills to her spine as she pushed herself farther away from the menacing woman. She tensed as her back was firmly against the headboard, causing her into a deep panic.
The woman arched a brow and laughed with amusement. "Look at you, so timid like a mouse. You were once a lioness, but now you're nothing." There was a flash of disdain in her eyes. It was as if she was disappointed in her. "It's almost painful to watch you." She sneered inching closer and closer until the tip of her nose touched hers.
The girl whimpered, wishing she could close her eyes and make her disappear, but she kept her eyes locked with hers. "P-please, don't hurt me." She begged.
The woman frowned at her plea. Slowly her brows furrowed into a harsh wrinkle, her face turned dark with distaste. She snarled as she pulled back a hand, her nails morphing into sharp talons.
"Pitiful, die already!"
The girl screamed, pushing off the bed sheets with a hard thrust of her feet, barely pushing the monstrous woman away in the process.
She fell unto the floor with a loud thump, scrambling away from the bed and towards the door of her chambers.
The woman hissed, her neck cracking as it turned a full 180 degrees. Her chin was now against the back of her neck, the muscles bulged into a deformed curve and strained against the strange angle of her bones. She beamed, her eyes turning blood red as she stared at her with hunger.
"You can't escape this. You can't run away from yourself!"
The scared girl did not understand what she meant, nor did she linger on those words. Right now, her focus was on surviving.
She pushed herself off from the floor, dashing towards the door that felt miles away. Her back was turned, not witnessing the grotesque display of the woman's neck snapping back in place as she turned her body around with a sharp twist.
