"HEY, I GOT YOU! RELAX! I GOT YOU," Tony called to Pepper. Despite the fact that he was panicking on the inside, he was careful not to show her his fear. We had prevented Tony and Rhodey's kidnapping and the president's death just in time for this to happen.
Pepper let out an anxious shout.
"Just look at me," Tony said desperately, stretching out a hand to try and grab her.
I whispered to Jacob. "Maybe we can form some kind of human rope?"
He shook his head, "It wouldn't work."
"Then I can't watch." I buried my face in his shirt. "I know how it ends, but I hate this."
"Honey, I can't reach any further and you can't stay there. You gotta let go. Let go! I'll catch you, I promise." Tony said desperately. He knew it was hopeless, but he had to try.
I knew it was coming, but when the machinery shifted a cringed and gripped Jacob's arm tightly. "Oh gosh."
Pepper slipped off of the platform and screamed. "Ahhh!"
Tony stood shaking, staring down at where she had fallen from.
I ran toward Tony and his hand. "It's okay, okay? I shouldn't be saying this, but Pepper is alive. She's fine. Just breathe."
He looked at me, his eyes lit up with hope. "She is?"
"She's safe, Tony. Now we need to stop Killian."
Speaking of the devil, he climbed up to the bridge just as I spoke his name. "Shame-I would've caught her."
Not a shame-he's going to kill you. I stepped back and nodded for Tony to do his thing. With one last grave glance at me, he stepped toward Killian, ready to do his job.
Jacob and I watched from sidelines as they fought; the man who saves the world and the man who wanted to end it.
We watched in awe as Tony jumped into his suit. "So are we just cheerleaders, or what?"
"Let's meet him downstairs," I suggested, heading toward a ladder.
Once we reached the bottom, we stood with our necks craned to watch the battle above. When Tony jumped to another suit, Jacob exclaimed, "That's awesome!"
"Yeah, yeah, back up. He's coming down." I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. There was a clang and I almost tripped over a metal pole. "Perfect."
