I awoke in a haze.
The room smelt of rum.
I entered the Tavern.
"Good morn, M'Lady", the barman said.
"Good morn. Is Captain Tom away?".
"'E was arrested and taken away".
"What! Why?".
"He was supplying sailors with illegal guns. And rum. Among other nocturnal activities". He shook his head.
"But...I must see him".
"If you like, M'Lady. But it won't do any good. He will be in the cells for a long time. And everyone knows that without a crew an' a ship...there's no point in comin' here to Louisiana. Or any city for that matter".
I ran out of the Tavern doors...and ignored the other sailors. My pain at losing my lover swelled like the seas...as disaster stuck.
