Yeri's days after the meeting are filled with worry and unsettling feelings.
No, she doesn't care about her brother. He can go straight to hell if it can be the option to get rid of him once and for all from her life. She had paid more than enough for his silly doings. She had enough.
It's her parents that worry her.
They are old and, with her father being sick, aren't in best condition to take a blow like this again. She already knows what the outcome is once her brother meet their mother. Mother always has a soft spot on her son.
Always, to the sickening level.
So when she receives a call from her mother's cell after her shift ends, she braces herself for that outcome.
It already begins with her mother's sobs.
"Mom," she shouts a little, feeling her patience growing thin. "What is it? Is something wrong with Dad?"
"Oh, Dear. How can I put this? At first I don't want to bother you. I know how you feel about your brother."
Good. Then don't.
Yeri is very much wanting those exact words come out from her mouth. But her parents never rise that kind of daughter, so she keeps quiet.
"The neighbours told me a week a go that there were men, big and scary men, came to our house, demanding to see your brother. The neighbours told them, he hadn't been in sight for a long time now and that we were not available too. They tried to cover for us and didn't tell those men where we are."
"I tried not to say anything to your father, afraid he might get upset and it effected his treatment, but the your brother came here three days ago."
"To the stay in apartment?" Yeri is yelling in frustration now. How could a grown man be so stupid!
"Yes. Oh, Yeri! He was all black and blue and bruised all over his body."
Yeri still feels no pity. She would add a stab to any part of his body if she can get away with it.
"He begged us to sell the land to cover his debt."
Yeri stays silent for a while, listening to her mother rambling about her brother injuries. "Did he say how much?"
"A hundred million won."
Damn it.
Min Yoongi is right. No friend of hers has that kind of money.
"What did Dad say about this?"
Her mother sobs harder. "Your father was very angry. He said that it was time for your brother to take responsibility for his action, that he won't have anything to do with it. The land is for you, once you are married, he will not sell it. Your brother had already had his share. But, Yeri-ya, he said they were going to kill him!"
Don't care.
"Did Dad budge when he said this?"
"No," Way to go, Dad! "But then he said again he is married now, with a child."
Oh, God.
"Your father sent him away but he grew awfully quiet after that. I know he was thinking hard and his condition drops after that day."
Yeri curses. She no longer care it is her mother on the other line. "I can't do anything, Mom! That is too much of money. I have to sell my soul to Satan to get that kind of money."
