You pressed your body up against the bars, a hair pin between your fingers digging in the lock. Your free hand gripped the grimy bars tightly, their edges cutting deeply into your palm. Got to get out, got to get out, got to get out... those words repeated in your mind. The panel in the top of the chamber clicked, and your heart beat so fast that it hurt against your rib cage. Footsteps echoed through the hidden room, bouncing off its brick walls.
Click, click. Click, click. Click, click. Click, click.
It was as even and patient as the ticking of a clock – it drove you mad. You were a bird in a cage – a sitting duck in the eyes of a predator. Your hands slicked with sweat, shaking like a leaf in the wind, and the pinned fell from your fingers to the floor. You cursed under your breath and crouched, sticking your arm through the bar to reach it. It was almost under your fingers when a hand clad in a pristine white glove retrieved it instead.
“Well, well, well, _____, now what do we have here?” You flinched, quickly standing and backing away from the bars. Claude’s golden eyes flicked between the bent pin and you before he flicked away where you wouldn’t be able to reach. “Trying to escape again? – I could have sworn I taught you better.”
“You can’t keep me in here, Claude!” you spat, balling your hands around fistfuls of your dress. “I’ll get out one day! I swear I will!” Claude smirked,
“I’d enjoy to see that. Especially since you wouldn’t get off the property before you were caught again.” You glared at him,
“I hate you!” you yelled. Before you could blink, Claude was in front of you and the door was locked once more. He had a grip on your chin, squeezing it tightly between his fingers, forcing you to look up at him.
“You shouldn’t be like that to your master,” he noted. You stared at him, and then simply rolled your eyes.
“You aren’t my master.” Irritation crossed Claude’s features before they turned to stone once more.
“You know, I don’t really like your attitude right now.” Although his voice was even, you could pick out the annoyance lying in its tone. “If you think that there’s anyone out there looking for you, then you’re terribly mistaken, child. You know as well as I do that you have no place to return to.”
“Well there’s no question of that,” you scoffed. “But when I escape, I’m going so far that even you won’t be able to find me, Claude Faustus.”
“The chances of that are slim, ___,” he muttered amused, releasing your chin, and once again was on the other side of the bars. “I’d stop feeding you as punishment, but that child of yours – ours – needs their nourishment. Being a half demon, it’s sure to be a hellion on your health.” You glared at him once more. You had all but forgotten about the child growing in your womb. You didn’t love it, not since it was his, but you didn’t have the heart to get rid of it. So there you were, stuck in a cell four months pregnant with the child of the insane demon who had put you in that cage.
“I do not claim this child, Faustus. It’s nothing but a disease to me. I’ll never love it – just like I’ll never love you.” You were surprised at the calm of your voice, despite how angry you were. “But, even then, when I escape, the child stays with me. I’ll never let be corrupt and immoral like you.” Claude hummed in amusement,
“No matter how their raised, all demons are corrupt.” On that note, Claude turned on his heel and strode towards the stair well. He knew you’d never get out, no matter what you did. Claude always made sure that he was one step ahead. You were his. That child was his. And he wasn’t planning on having his master around long enough to complain about the child.
