Chapter 1: Death Waits For None

She slaps me across the face. I feel the blood of my split lip drain into my mouth. My tongue licks it up as my eyes size up my opponent. She's around five foot six. She definitely has an advantage in that aspect, with me only being five foot two; a fact that constantly annoys me. Her curly red hair bounces on her shoulders as she lunges towards me. I duck out of the way of her thin body and bring my foot out to trip her. She lets out a screech as she plummets to the floor, sprawling on the ground, she scrambles to right herself.

I let her stand, the fight won't be fun if I end it now. A crowd is already forming around us, filling the small hallway. I start to feel traces of claustrophobia, but I push it away and focus on the girl. She has tears forming, her eyes dart around us, realizing that it's too late to back out of the fight. The crowd expects a good fight, and it's now her job to give them one. Unfortunately for her, she's up against me.

It's not as if I am a pro at fighting, or have some freakish powers that will allow me to beat any challengers like in a movie. I'm not actually that good at all, but she is fighting because she was angry and lashed out. I am fighting because she hurt my best friend. She has bullied Rachel for the entire year, and I am done with it.

The girl throws a punch at my head, the crowd inhales a breath, ready for the impact. I duck to the side and ram my body into hers, tackling her to the ground again. The idiots around us start screaming in joy, shouting out and clapping hysterically. All of this noise is going to attract one of the teachers at the school. I have to get out of here quickly.

I wait until she tries to strike me again to attack. She throws out a kick, aiming for my stomach. I grab her leg, quickly turning it and managing to throw her off balance. I feel Rachel behind me, trying to pull me away from the girl, but I ignore her, instead I pull the leg, sending her crashing to the ground.

The crowd let's out some startled gasps. I hear some kid cry out the girl's name, "Abby". She has tears in her eyes as she stumbles to her feet. I kick her in the shin and she crumbles to the ground once again, clutching at her leg. A fierce wave of pain runs through the nerves of my foot. I suck it up, grabbing Rachel's dark hand and pulling her into the crowd. Not five seconds later an elderly woman in high heels with puckered lips and narrowed eyes starts screaming at everyone. I clamber through the crowd as they all madly flee. Rachel drags me to the side, pulling me into the bathroom.

She shakes her head at me, "You're an idiot." I let a small smirk dance across my lips as I nod. She rolls her eyes and gathers some paper towels to clean up my bloodied face. My tongue darts out, tasting the blood that is caked on my lips.

I'll probably be sore tomorrow, I think to myself. "I'm sorry Rachel. You should know by now that I don't like those types of people."

"The ones that make fun of the weak?" She asks sarcastically, "The monsters that prey on the innocent?" she rolls her eyes and tsks at me, "stop being so immature, bullies are everywhere and you just managed to put both of us even higher on their lists."

I look at my feet, feeling a slight guilt creep over me, "Look, I'm really sorry ok? But you know that I'd do the same things if I had to again."
