Harry's POV
I sat on the edge of my bed at the Leaky Cauldron. I couldn't sleep, how could I sleep knowing that Anna was dead? I had found out three days ago, and I had pretty much lost any and all hope that she might be alive. I just wanted to die. It would be easy, just two words. I got my wand out and pointed it towards myself.
"Avada Ked-" I stopped when I heard pecking on the window. I looked over and saw Anna's owl, Leah. I quickly got up and opened the window. I took the letter out of her mouth and opened it. It had scrawled writing on it. It looked nothing like Anna's neat handwriting. It read,
Dear Harry,
I don't know what they're saying on the news, but if they're saying I'm dead, they're wrong. If they're saying I've been kidnapped, they're right. One of Voldemort's followers kidnapped me and is treating me horribly. Whatever you're picturing right now, what I'm going through is worse. I don't want you to come and find me because I don't want them to get you too. I don't know what I would do if they tortured you... I promise I will get out of here alive, because it's you who keeps me going. I love you so much.
Love,
Anna
P.S. Can you take care of Leah for me? I would really appreciate it. And also, as much as I would love to hear back, please don't reply, if they find out that I was able to send a letter, the would literally kill me.
I just kept re-reading the short note, and it killed me every time. How badly were they treating her? I kept picturing her covered in blood with tattered clothes and lashes from a whip all over her and her screaming in agony. I couldn't take it. Even though she said not to go look for her, I had to. How could I just leave her there to get tortured? I walked out of my room and down the stairs, the note in my hand. I saw Hermione and all the Weasleys sitting at a table, looking depressed. Most of them had tear stains on their faces. They all loved Anna.
"Hey mate," Ron said glumly.
"Anna's still alive," I said.
"No, she's dead, on the news-"
"She sent a letter," I said, cutting Hermione off. I handed them the letter and they gasped after they had read it.
"So, how are we going to find her?" I asked.
"You musn't go Harry," Mrs. Weasley said.
"But-"
"She said not to," Hermione said.
"YOU EXPECT ME TO JUST SIT HERE WHILE ANNA'S GETTING TORTURED?!" I yelled.
"Let the adults handle it," Arthur said sternly.
"Why? Why can't we do anything? How do you expect us to just sit here" I asked, ticked off.
"Harry, can I have a word?" he asked.
"Sure," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. We walked away from the table.
"You are in grave danger,"
"Does this have anything to do with Sirius Black? Did he kidnap Anna?"
"Harry-"
"Did he?" I asked, wanting answers. He took a deep breath.
"Most likely. But you can't go looking for him. In the letter, Anna was right. He will torture you or kill you. I just wish that she would have told who kidnapped her. But I promise the ministry will try their best to find her," he said, trying to reassure me, it didn't work. I decided not to argue with him, it wouldn't get me anywhere.
"I'm sure they will," I mumbled, trying not to sound sarcastic, but I guess that he could tell.
"Anna is like a daughter to me, and I will do whatever it takes to get her back," he said, and this time I believed him.
