"Think she's still alive?"

"She's breathin', ain't she?"

"Aye, but... Y'know..."

"Belt it, ye daft scum. I'm surprised the Cap'n hasn't thrown ye overboard with how stupid ye be!"

Finally, Mikki cracked her eyes open after listening to the two argue for a bit. When the pirates saw this, they stopped talking.

"Oi, go fetch the Cap'n and the Quartermaster. They gonna wanna take a lookie." A man nodded and hurried off. "'Ello, beautiful. Sleep well?" The man laughed, a cackling one at that. However, he was surprised when the woman suddenly spat up into his face. The pirate's expression turned darker and more threatening and he raised a hand to slap her hard across the cheek before he decided to wipe the saliva from his face.

"Oi! You're not to lay a hand on her! I specifically said so in the orders I gave!" A man yelled from the doorway. The pirate who slapped Mikki grumbled a bit.

"Sorry, Cap'n..."

"Aye, you better be. Now get out of here, ye bilge rat!" The man saluted before hurrying out of the room. It wasn't long at all before the captain of the ship appeared in Mikki's view, along with the Quartermaster behind him. She was still a bit dazed and felt a pulsing rhythm in her left arm. However, the girl didn't look at where it was or what was causing it, as she was instead glaring at the pirate before her.

"I thought you were supposed to leave me alone after I left," she growled.

"So did I. And it could have been like that, had you not taken something of mine," Arthur said lowly and threateningly. There was no point in Mikki denying she'd taken anything. It was at that moment she had realized that the small golden telescope was gone from her possession. However, all she did was smirk up at the Captain.

"It doesn't work, does it?" she asked, sounding a little too amused. The Captain growled lowly in his throat. "Surprised? Would you believe me if I told you why it doesn't?"

"I'll believe what I wish. I want to know what you did to it. What did you do to make it unable to be used?"

"Nothing. I only took back what was originally mine. You see, that telescope was mine. Given to me by my mother before she passed. It's a family heirloom, dating back long before you were even born. Before anyone you know was born or existed. Long before. You see, since it was given to me, it only works by my hands using it. For other people to use it, it must be given to them willingly. Not taken," Mikki explains.

"Oh? Why should I believe that? It worked just fine before you came along," Kirkland hissed.

"Because when I was younger, I was a good child. I was brought up by my grandparents after my parents were taken from me. So when a young man came around later, politely asking for it, I let him have it. I didn't know the powers of it. I only remember my mother's words when she handed it to me. 'Look through and see things no other human can see. See things you do or don't wish to see. Wherever your thoughts lie.' I understand now that it's a very wanted and very valuable object in this world, and I have taken it back. Now, I didn't know you had it, honestly. You weren't the man that came and took it from me as a child. So when I was searching through your things the other night, I was surprised when I recognized the goldscope instantly. I remember it being in my mother's delicate hands as she pressed it into my own, telling me to take good care of it. Now that, sir, is why it no longer works and won't work again. Because I won't give it up again." Mikki felt rather proud of herself to be honest. Really, in all that had happened in the past few days, she expected herself to be scared out of her mind. Instead, she felt braver. She'd saved her friend's life when it came to it and sacrificed herself. She was a much different person than she thought she'd ever be. That was something to be proud of.

Kirkland, however, didn't seem proud in the slightest. His face was carved with angered features. He might as well be one of majesty, because he looked royally pissed off. He growled and suddenly yanked Mikki up off the floor and dragged her out of the brig. The ropes binding her hands were cutting into and chafing her skin, making her bite her lip as if to ease the pain of it all.

It wasn't long before the bright sunlight nearly blinded her eyes until they adjusted. Mikki looked around and saw before her the deck of the ship. Several crewmen were doing their jobs that were assigned to them, and a few of them even stopped what they were doing in favor of watching their Captain and what he might be doing with the woman.

Mikki nearly bumped into Kirkland when he stopped abruptly and turned around to face her. He made a quick gesture and suddenly the ropes binding her wrists were cut away from behind and she turned her head to see the silvery-haired man with a sword who had cut the ropes. The Quartermaster.

Kirkland then held out something that gleamed in the sunlight. The Goldscope. Mikki's Goldscope. She somewhat ached to just reach out and grab it from him, but knew that wouldn't do any good. Besides, it's not like he could do anything with it anyway. However, she was surprised when he tossed it to her. Fumbling slightly, Mikki managed to catch it in her hands. She gave a confused look to the Captain of the ship. "What-"

"I want you to prove to me that it works. If what you're saying is true, then prove it," Kirkland said, crossing his arms and giving Mikki and expecting look.

"How am I supposed to prove that it works? You can't see what I see with this. You can't look through it at the same time as me. And I'm certainly not going to give it to you willingly, so you can dispose of me. I'm not that stupid," Mikki says, wrapping the string of the necklace around her hand, letting the telescope dangle from it.

"I want you to keep hold of it, but let me look through it. Just so I know that you're being honest. I can't just trust you and your word."

There really was no getting away from this. Besides, how could it hurt? Nodding, Mikki held her hand out, keeping the string wound around her hand to keep it all in her possession. She felt Kirkland take her hand, and it wasn't a soft take. It was a greedy and rough grab that was sure to leave a reddened ring around her hand. She glared at the pirate out of the corner of her eye.

Kirkland extended the small telescope and lifted it to his eye, looking through it. Mikki couldn't tell what he was seeing. The man seemed hard to read, but even so, she hadn't known him very long personally. Though she did know a few personal things that she wished to forget. She shuddered slightly at the thought, but that only earned her a strange look from the pirate before he went back to looking through the telescope.

A few moments later, he pulled away and took a few steps back, eyeing the woman up and down. He then pulled out his pistol, cocked it, and pointed it at her. A few of the men gasped, but Mikki did nothing, and showed no emotion but a bit of anger.

"And what if I were to kill you? I may not be able to take it from you, but if I kill you, that won't be a problem any longer," Kirkland said. To his internal surprise, though, she chuckled.

"Take it from me, it doesn't work. Kill me, though, it turns to dust. That way nobody will have it." She extended her arms as if to encourage death to take her. "But if that's how you want it, then be my guest. Shoot me. I don't mind. Grant it, there isn't anything I can do to stop you, but I figured I could at least assure you."

Kirkland growled, his finger on the trigger. He brought his hand straight up and fired up into the sky. A few of the men jumped slightly, but Mikki stayed still. Though there was a small smirk on her lips and a glint in her brown eyes.

"Change your mind, pirate?"

"I may not kill you, but I can torture you. Cut off your fingers one by one by the inch each day. Then your toes, your limbs. Whatever I wish."

"I did tell you it's all based on me giving it away willingly, right? Torturing me won't bring you any closer," Mikki said, as if Kirkland was stupid.

"Oh, I know. However, I also know that you're never going to give it to me anyway, so I can do what I please. You're still on my ship. You'll work and be part of the crew. Though if I torture you enough, there's a chance you'll get fed up enough of the pain and just give me the Goldscope," the pirate said.

"You can, but I won't give it up. Torture me all you want. This Goldscope is mine. However," Mikki lowered her hands and placed one on her hip, the other hand raising so she can admire the small golden telescope, "you're just lucky that I'm a very curious person."
