Comeback

2. Joe informs Nick

A/N: Sorry this is a little shorter, but these first few chapters are mainly just build up to when they meet again and a way to share some of their history. Let me know what you think!

"Hey Joe." Nick greets his brother after accepting his facetime call. Joe is currently in New York while he himself is in LA. He's pretty sure Joe is calling to let him know how it was to meet Sophie for the first time. He hopes Sophie was as great in real life as Joe says she is over the phone. "How was your date?"

"Hey, it was amazing." Joe grins widely before he tells Nick about his date with Sophie. "Oh and you'll never guess who Sophie just finished filming a movie with." Joe says once he's given an account of his night.

"Who?" Nick asks as he settles into his couch with a bottle of water he grabbed from the kitchen while he listened to Joe. He's happy that Sophie and his brother get on in real life as well, but he doesn't understand why it would be important to know who Sophie recently worked with.

"Y/N." Joe says with a smile. He always got on really well with Y/N and he's pretty excited to see her again. They were close friends when she was dating Nick, and he was quite upset when she disappeared from his life because his younger brother was stupid enough to break up with her. "Sophie gave me Y/N's phone number and I plan on catching up with her while I'm here in New York." He continues when Nick doesn't respond. "Kev is coming around in a few days, so I thought we could meet her somewhere. I mentioned it to him and he seemed excited to see her again as well."

Nick is silent for a moment. Memories float to the forefront of his mind at the mention of Y/N's name. "Sounds good." He mutters, still somewhat caught in the memories of the girl he was once convinced he would marry. "So she's back then, in the industry I mean." He says. If she's back in the industry and in touch with Joe it would really only be a matter of time before they run into each other again, and he'll probably be asked about her in every interview.

"Yeah, from what I hear this new movie her and Sophie are doing is going to be huge, so she's coming back on a high too." Joe answers as he tries to read the expression on his brother's face. He has missed hanging out with Y/N, but he doesn't want Nick to feel uncomfortable about it. "You're okay with it right? With Kev and I meeting up with Y/N, I mean." He asks just to be sure.

"Yeah, yeah, of course." Nick responds immediately. "We were kids when we dated, it's in the past. It just brings back a lot of memories to hear about her after so long." He admits.

"Yeah, I had that as well when Sophie mentioned her. She was such a big part of our lives." Joe nods as he takes in his brothers words. "I'm pretty curious to hear what she's been doing the past few years. She hasn't been all that active on social media, so it's been hard keeping up."  He says more to himself than to Nick. He continued to follow Y/N on all social media platforms but she had only posted occasionally, so all Joe knows is that she traveled around Europe for a bit and that she got a university degree.

Nick just nods in response. He unfollowed her after their breakup, not wanting to see her face everyday after they stopped seeing each other. It wasn't a bad breakup, but he had regretted it the next day and didn't want to be confronted with pictures of her that would make him regret it even more.

"Well I'm going to bed, I'll talk to you later." Joe says and when Nick mutters a goodnight he hangs up, leaving his younger brother to his thoughts.

Nick's thoughts go back to when he broke up with Y/N. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time but he regretted it soon after. His pride had stopped him from reaching out and telling her the breakup had been a mistake, and if he's completely honest that's where his commitment issues started. He hasn't been able to make a relationship work since.

He and Y/N were just teenagers when they dated and they barely knew who they were outside of the Disney universe and that was part of the reason Nick broke up with her; he thought he needed to figure out who he was on his own.

When the Jonas Brothers broke up he often thought about Y/N. Everything around him changed and he found himself longing for her familiar presence. He missed having her around as much as he missed his brothers. She disappeared to the back of his mind over the years, but now that Joe brought her up he once again gets an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. Before he fully realizes what he's doing his fingers have typed in her name and he's looking at her Instagram profile.

She looks different in the latest pictures. Her hair is shorter and she has definitely grown up. He sees pictures of her with Dylan and Cole, and feels a slight pang of jealousy that they stayed close to her while he didn't. His finger hovers over the follow button, but he realizes how that would look in the media and quickly closes the app.

Just because his brothers will be catching up with Y/N doesn't mean he will have much to do with her. They might run into each other at some point, but there's no reason for him to spend this much time thinking about it. She's in the past and his focus is on the future.
