Comeback

12. Both in LA

A/N: I'm so sorry this took so long. Things at home aren't great, so I haven't really been in the right mindset to write. I hope you'll like it!

Y/N puts on her sunglasses as she follows Sophie out of the plane at LAX. They just flew in from Canada where they've been doing several interviews and will be doing more promo for the movie in Los Angeles. Before Canada they had been in Australia and after LA they will be heading to London where they will end the press tour. They've done a few interviews on their own but most of them are with Y/N, Sophie and Tom Holland, who is also starring in the movie. It's been nice to have Tom with them, he keeps things lighthearted.

Because of all the traveling Y/N hasn't been able to pick up the book Nick found for her. During the short break she had, he was away for a project, so the book has been laying at Nick's place in LA for a while now. That will change now though, because they're both in LA and Nick has already invited her over to his place for dinner tomorrow night. So she can pick up the book and they can catch up without having to worry about anyone taking pictures of them. Not that there's much to catch up on, they've been texting a lot and for the past two weeks Nick has started to call her just before she goes to bed. Around the same time he started to call her, his behavior has started to become more and more flirtatious. At first he had been all for being friends but he has started to drop more and more hints that he's interested in giving their relationship another try.

Sophie has been teasing Y/N about Nick and the possibility of them getting back together, but Y/N is still a little apprehensive. It has been nice to talk to him again, she really did miss that, but that doesn't mean she wants to go back there and get hurt again. She knows he's been quite frivolous with dating since they broke up and she doesn't want to become another notch on his belt.

She mentioned her worries to Joe about a week back, because she needed the opinion of someone who really knows Nick. Joe said he shared her worries at first, but that he really believes Nick is serious about her. He also told her that Nick has spent more time trying to warm Y/N up to the idea of a relationship than he has spent in most relationships. Joe thought that might show Y/N that Nick really is taking her more seriously than the other girls he's been with, but she's still a bit hesitant.

She likes Nick, she really does. He's handsome, funny, kind and a very thoughtful person, and if they didn't have history she wouldn't have hesitated starting a relationship with him. But they do have history, and the trust that they once had is largely gone, though Nick has been trying to rebuild it. Y/N isn't sure what she should do because she really does think her and Nick are very compatible, but she's scared he'll change his mind again. Most of her fear comes from the fact that she's still not sure why he broke up with her and she hopes that she can finally get an honest answer to that question when they have dinner tomorrow.

Nick is looking up recipes online when Joe calls. "Hey." He says as he puts the phone on speaker and continues to scroll through the website he found on his laptop. "How are you?"

"Hey. I'm good." Joe's voice sounds from the other end. "What are you doing? You sound distracted." He adds.

"I'm just looking through recipes." Nick tells him. "Y/N is coming over for dinner tomorrow and I thought I'd cook something myself." He explains. He's looking forward to seeing Y/N again. He really thinks they've made progress and that they're getting close to dating again, so he wants to make a good impression tomorrow to keep the momentum going.

"Y/N is coming to yours for dinner?" Joe sounds surprised, which causes Nick to frown.

"Yeah." Nick says as his eyes leave the screen of his laptop and he fully focuses on the conversation. "Why does that surprise you? Did she say something?" He frowns as he tries to figure out if Y/N might have given Joe a reason for his surprised reaction. What if she told Joe that she's not interested in giving their relationship another chance?

"Not really." Joe says, which doesn't help Nick at all. "She just said she's a little hesitant to start seeing you again, because she knows you haven't been very serious about your relationships since you broke up with her." He explains, which only causes Nick's frown to deepen. "I told her you're serious about her, but she still seemed a bit doubtful."

Nick sighs. He knows he only has himself to blame for the fact that she doesn't fully trust him anymore. After all, he broke up with her and then proceeded to date several girls without putting much effort into the relationships. "That's good to know." He mutters. "I'll talk to her about it tomorrow."

Joe hums in agreement. "You'll have to get her to trust you again, man." He tells his younger brother. "That'll take time."

"I know." Nick sighs as his eyes move to the book he bought for Y/N. "I'll get her back, Joe. No matter what it takes."
