Jisoo was feeling things for Lisa. If she was honest, she had been for weeks, probably before Lisa had even told her that she was interested in girls, but that had definitely cemented what Jisoo was feeling. It was confusing and a little scary because she was sure she had never felt that way about a girl before. Every moment she spent in Lisa's company was making it clearer that this wasn't just some crush but she had absolutely no idea what to do about it.
The town was having its annual harvest festival over the weekend and normally it was something you'd go to together if you were a couple or in a big group of friends if you were single, and Jisoo wanted so badly to invite Lisa. Just the two of them. Lisa probably wouldn't know that it was usually a thing couples did right? She decided to bite the bullet after school one afternoon when they were alone walking home, it didn't have to mean anything. Even if Jisoo really wanted it to. They could go as friends and meet up with Chaeyoung, Jennie and whoever else was going once they'd spent some time there. Alone.
"I don't know if you've seen the posters but there's this festival thing this weekend." Jisoo said, trying to keep her tone lighthearted and breezy even though she felt like her heart was about to burst right out of her chest. "There'll be rides, games, food and fireworks! Oh shit..." Jisoo sighed, she knew this wasn't going to work.
"What?" Lisa stared at her as they turned onto Lisa's street.
"Fireworks... probably not a great idea for someone who doesn't like loud noises." Jisoo sagged her shoulders, she had been so nervous just to ask Lisa, that she hadn't even thought about the fireworks being an issue. "Never mind... we could do something else?" Jisoo noticed Lisa look away from her with a smile, Jisoo really liked that smile.
"I can handle fireworks, as long as I know when they're coming, I'm sure I'll be fine." Lisa looked back to Jisoo, who was grinning like an idiot, she couldn't help it. They were just coming up on Lisa's house and she bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from saying the words she desperately wanted to say.
"Awesome. Well we'll work out the details, bye!" Jisoo offered a quick wave as she walked quickly shaking her head, continuing the journey home instead of saying the words itching to get out. It's a date. She dared not to look back at Lisa, who she was sure noticed how awkward she was being. Normally they would hang out for a bit at Lisa's before Jisoo headed home but she wasn't risking it on a day when all she could think of was asking Lisa on a date.
Jisoo hadn't dated much, she went out with a boy for about six months the previous year, but he was older and moved away for school. He wanted to keep seeing her. He wanted a lot of things from her but she wasn't ready for that yet. She also wasn't ready to be in a long distance relationship with someone who was about to meet hundreds of girls who were likely willing to give him what he had wanted from Jisoo. So she broke up with him, told him to go and have fun and meet new people, and fall in love. She knew she didn't love him and she had a sneaking suspicion that the day she had broken up with him was the day he was going to tell her he was in love with her. Dumping him before he could make his declaration of love had seemed like the kindest thing to do. He was a lovely guy, but he just wasn't right. Lisa felt right.
They solidified their plans during lunch on Friday. Lisa would come round to Jisoo's and they would head over to the festival together. Jisoo caught Chaeyoung listening in to their conversation and shot Jisoo a questioning look, but Jisoo ignored her. She wasn't ready to talk to her about it yet even if she was her oldest friend. She knew it was unlikely that Chaeyoung was going to drop it, but until Jisoo was ready to talk to her about it, she would brush her off as best she could without being rude.
The moment Jisoo got home she was picking out what she wanted to wear. It was going to get chilly as the evening went on, and as much as she wanted to wear something that made her look great, she knew practicality needed to win. She settled on something both practical and that, she hoped, flattered her figure. She told Anne and Mike where she'd be, and when Jiyoon overheard, she asked if she could tag along. Jisoo managed to convince her that she should go with the new guy she'd been seeing. It took a little while and a forceful glare but she got what she wanted eventually.
