Chapter One: The Creatures

Kay Lee Jacobs woke up hearing scratching at the window across the room. Her 12-year-old sister Kora Lou was still fast asleep in her bed next to hers'. Kay Lee got out of bed and walked across the room to the window, cautiously pulling back the curtains. A creature that looked like a decaying body was growling and scratching at the window. Kay Lee jumped back horrified, "What the fuck is that thing?! I don't care... I need to get out of here." She ran across the room to her drawers and put on a gray tank top, black hoodie, black jeans, gray beanie, and gray converse high-tops. Kay Lee went over to her sisters bed and shook her awake, "Hey hey hey! You need to get up NOW Kora. Get dressed we need to go now! I'll explain on the way." Kay Lee said panicky. "Okay I'm up! Gimme a sec...." Kora said. For the past three years 18-year-old Kay Lee had been taking care of her sister since her parents died in a fatal car crash. It was devastating that their parents died, and tiring for Kay Lee to take care of her sister, but Kay Lee still loved her sister all the same and would still take care of her sister even if she was dying. 

Kay Lee stuffed her back-pack with fruit and sandwiches and water and clothes, then grabbed her sisters hand and looked out the window. Creatures that looked the same as the one she saw at the window this morning were walking down the street growling, and walking very slowly. "What ARE those things?" Kora asked, horrified. "I don't know, Kora. But what I do know is that they eat people. So when we go out there, we are going to run to Dakotas'. And promise me that you will keep holding onto my hand, okay?" Dakota Mae Kane was her childhood best friend that she had known since she was two years old. Kay Lee said quickly. "Okay, I promise." 

Kay Lee grabbed her sisters hand and sprinted out the door and down the street. She was almost half-way down before she realized that she wasn't holding her sisters hand anymore, she looked behind her and saw that Kora had tripped. Kay Lee ran to her sister and put her on her back then ran to her best friends house and burst through the door, shutting and locking it behind her. 

Kay Lee set her sister down on the couch and told her to stay. "Dakota?! Dakota are you here!" Kay Lee called through-out the house, panicked. "Kay, is that you?" Dakota came out of her room with a metal baseball bat. "Yeah it's me, and Kora." Kay Lee hugged her friend, and Dakota hugged back. "I'm glad your okay!" Kay Lee said. "Yeah, me too. But what I really want to know is.... What the fuck is going on?" Dakota said, looking out the window.
