» Chapter 11«
This has got be more nerve-wracking than my first interview with Gavril though the memory of that night is fuzzy. I blame my nerves...
And Maxon's stare.
He arrived only seconds after I took my seat, just as Gavril greeted the people of Illea. From the corner of my eye I knew he was still staring at me, and I wasnt the only one to notice. The Queen fail to keep her smile from showing as she gave her son glances, her husband however was oblivious seeing as he has been reporting the current situations and issues revolving the wellfare of Illea and its people.
"Stop shaking your legs" Celeste whispered as she kept her gaze straight, a smile on her face. "You look like you need to use the restroom"
I immediately stop, only to start moving my fingers as if I was playing the piano. I wish I was. My earlier confidence left me the moment I laid eyes on the cameras.
Tonight would be the night where they interview the last 3 girls and Maxon, together. And from the size of the cream colored sofa placed infront of Gavril's own chair, we wont be able to move much.
"Thank Your Highness" Gavril says as he walks towards the center and bows, King Clarkson gives a curt nod back as he walked towards his throne. The Queen gave her hysband husband a dazzling smile, to which he returned by giving her a short kiss. Her really is different around Mom.
"-call on Lady Kriss!" Gavril exclaims, bringing me out of my thoughts. I look towards Gavrils outstretched hand as Kriss reached him. Gavril gave her a kiss on her knuckles as Kriss took a seat on the sofa.
"Now you all are in for a treat tonight for not only would our girls would be asked, but as well as our very own, Prince Maxon!" Gavril shouts a huge smile on his face.
Maxon looks at Gavril with a smile as he walked towards the center, first greeting Gavril and the people of Illea, then taking a seat beside Kriss.
I believe I had smoke coming out of my ears when Maxon turns towards Kriss as says she looks beautiful.
"Shall we start? We do have limited time and I'm sure we, the people of Illea and of course myself would love to know of your brewing relationships" Gavril said with a smile, passing a hand towards Celeste and I's direction. We gave polite smiles back as a fake applause echoes.
Brewing relationship?
"Alright, so first question is for Lady Kriss," Gavril paused for a while, dramatic effect "How would you describe you and the Prince's relationship from the first day of the Selection to now?"
My heart accelerates at the sight of Kriss' devious smile, my hands twitching to be around her neck as she gazed at Maxon who seemed to be enjoying the Q&A.
THIRD PERSONS
Unaware to the audience and the people on stage, the Prince's right eye twitched in nervousness as his gaze fleetingly reached America's glare.
He inwardly smiled. He liked seeing America jelous, it meant, hopefully that she cared for him even when she was ignoring him. He couldnt seem to take his eyes off of the red head beauty.
Her make up was done simply, a pale pink color on her lips, while her hair was up on a stylish messy bun emphasizing her cream skin. The dress flowed around her like it she was in front of a fan, creating an illusion of yellow and red hues, brightening her blue eyes.
She's immaculate.
"Well I would I have to say the Prince and I are closer than we could ever be" Kriss' reply cut through Maxon's beautiful train of thought. He liked thinking about America. "I certainly know what he likes and dont like" Kriss gazed at the Prince who seemed preoccupied at his thoughts as his expression didnt waver from its dreamy look. A pang of anger coursed through her at the thought that he wasnt thinking of her.
"Oh really?" Gavril asks, his expression retains its optimism though inside, he was deathly bored. He really wanted to cut to the chase and finish interviewing Kriss and Celeste so he may prive on America more. More time equals more questions. He always favored the red head rebel from the start. The country needs a princess who knows what the country is going through, and her Five status and slight blutness is a trait the people of Illea, and the King must see as an advantage, not a low point.
"And for Prince Maxon, how would you say your relationship with the Lady changed?" Gavril asked.
Fortunately Maxon was ready with a response-one so general it borders clichè.
"Were definitely closer, and more comfortable with each other than our first meeting" Maxon replies without looking at said girl.
His father's eyebrows almost meet at his son's clip reply, a contrast to his wife's gleeful expression. Dont get her wrong, Lady Kriss is a lovely lady, definitely princess material yet she did not have the courage to speak her mind and give her own opinion- traits valuable at looking for an effective leader, because that is who these girls would eventually be. She does not have to be particularly pretty, or possess that regal aura, they must have passion and be compassionate. A leader must connect with his people.
And sadly, none but a certain red head has it.
Gavril hid his surprise at the Prince's general reply. He would have thought that Lady Kriss was a close second to Lady America and that would mean that they must have connected right? Shaking his head, Gavril continued to question the duo, giving Illea a glimpse of their compatibility.
"Alright, we would be flashing a picture of the two of you, and I apologize if it isnt the one you hope because we couldnt find other pictures of the two of you"
The picture that popped up was the one taken the first few weeks of the Selection, for a magazine. Maxon had an arm around Kriss' waist as she leaned against him. It was a general couple picture that one may find at the other pages-same position for every girl, except for one.
"What were you thinking when the photo was taken? Ladies first" Gavril said with genuine curiousity as he gestured with his hand for the lady to speak.
"Well, honestly, I had to keep myself from giggling" Kriss covered her laugh with her hand as she looked at Maxon under her eyelashes, unsuccessfully getting his attention. "The Prince is really good looking up close." And to top off her cute-sy speech, a faint blush colored Kriss' cheek as her hair covered one side of her face feigning shy.
Gavril stopped himself from rolling his eyes, instead he plastered a smile and said, "Adorable! Alright now lets hear from our Prince." Gavril turned his attention towards the occupied looking prince, a knowing glint in his eyes at the thought of whom the Prince was thinking of.

FanficMy version of The One. This book does not include the rebels and mainly focuses on Maxon and America...mostly situations where I make America outshine the others ✨ The middle parts are horrible and I want to take it down but I can't. Warning! Incred...
