Gathering around the campfire laughter rang out from everyone. Luke had just toppled backwards off of the log he was sitting on and into the dirt. Shaking my head I leaned forward to warm my hands over the fire. It had been a long afternoon. We'd reached the campsite as the sun was setting and had quickly set up tents. Thank God Luke was Mr Boy Scout because I was useless with any form of camping gear.  Darkness had fallen by the time tents were pitched so a fire was lit and dinner was cooked. Luke may have been good with tents but we were lucky I could cook. The kids were finally starting to settle down and as the fire cracked as laughter rang around the campsite and I finally startled to feel comfortable camping.

"Hemmings get off the floor." I huffed.

"Make me Red." He shot back, standing up and perching himself back on the log.

"Seems like I don't have too."

Luke rolled his eyes at me from across the fire. His face was dancing with light from the fire and he looked so young.

"Come here." He said, patting the log next to him.

I raised my eyebrows at him, I wasn't his puppy, "You come here."

Standing up he weaved his way around the circle and plopped down on the log next to me. I smiled inwardly at the influence I had over him in that moment.

"We need to talk," He announced, his voice loud enough that only I could hear it, "About sleeping arrangements."

My eyes widened as Luke continued, "I mean after I have my way with you."

"Lucas!" I chastised quietly, slapping his arm.

He grinned, like a mischievous child, "What can I say? I'm a teenage boy in a tent with a pretty girl."

I felt my face flush. I'd never had a boy be so outwardly sexual with me.

"How do you feel about spooning?" He asked innocently.

I rolled my eyes and was about to answer him before I was cut off by a high voice, "Luke?"

Stacey was looking up at Luke with wide innocent eyes.

"What's up Stace?" He asked, he was so good with the kids.

"Can you tell us a scary story?" She asked, her eyes alight with nervous energy at the prospect of a scary story.

Luke shrugged, "Sure. I know a few good stories."

The kids gathered around the fire, nervously glancing between one another as Luke began his story. Someone had pulled out a bag of marshmallows and was handing them around. Taking one I popped it in my mouth, savouring the sweet taste. Luke had the kids hooked on his story, and under the light of the fire he looked especially creepy. Settling into my seat next to him I tuned out his words and just listened to his low voice. All I could think about was what was possibly going to happen later. I wanted it, I couldn't deny it but I was nervous. Very, very nervous. Everything about Luke made me nervous though I tried to deny it, it was the truth.

"Earth to Tessa?" Luke's voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"Huh?"

"You got a scary story?" Luke asked, his blue eyes darkened by the fire light.

I shook my head, "Oh no."

Luke wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "Come on Red. You don’t have any scary stories?"

"Nope." I shrugged as best as I could under his arm.

Glancing around at the kids there was a lot of yawning and tired eyes, "Luke what's the time?"
