Coincidences

This was my favorite place to be. It was warm and cozy. The scent of coffee drifted through the air and the snow falling softly onto the pavement outside granted a spectacular view. I sighed in contentment, feeling at home and more complete than I ever thought I'd be capable of feeling.

"Here's your hot chocolate, ma'am." The waiter addressed me. His English was choppy, but I appreciated his effort.

"Thank you." I told him in Korean and gave him a kind smile. He bowed and walked away.

I still felt the smile linger on my lips as I put my earbuds in. I opened my book and started to read as I blew on my drink. I soon lost myself in my music and book.

I was so immersed, in fact, I didn't notice someone trying to get my attention. Not until they tapped me on the shoulder.

When I glanced up, my heart dropped and made itself right at home with my feet.
If I had to die in this moment, I would die happily.

Because staring down at me was Kim Namjoon from BTS.

I jumped as Cypher 4 started loudly in my earphones. It was only then I realized I had been staring at him, wide eyed, and hadn't caught anything he had said.

I felt my face heat up as I pulled my earphones out and bowed my head, apologizing.

"I'm sorry. I didn't catch what you said." I said sheepishly.

He laughed and gestured to my book. "I said that's my favorite author."

I looked at him in surprise. I was shocked anybody knew who Addica Jane was and even more surprised that HE would know who she is.

"You know Addica Jane?" I asked, mentally facepalming myself for asking such a stupid question when he clearly just stated she was his favorite.

"Of course. I've read all of her work at least a thousand times. She's amazing." He glanced at the empty seat in front of me. "Do you mind?"

"No, not at all. Have a seat. Anyone who knows Addica is great company to keep." I joked.

He placed his jacket on the back of the seat and sat down, pushing his sleeves up as he did so.

"What's your favorite of hers?" I asked.

"That is such a difficult question. All of her books have this flare, this uniqueness about them that makes it hard to compare them. But I would have to say that Heaven Has Fallen is currently my favorite. What about you?"

I grinned. "I love Heaven Has Fallen. I've read that one the most out of all of her books. But the book that has made the biggest impact was Dawn and Dusk."

"Really? Why do you say that? I figured After Midnight was the most intense."

And that's how we spent the next twenty minutes, engrossed in our own little bubble.

We were snapped out of it when music started playing loudly.

You got the best of me
You got the best of me
So please just don't leave me
You got the best of me

Both of us paused our animated discussion as Namjoon's voice filtered out of my phone.

I wanted the earth to swallow me up as I reached for my phone.

"Excuse me." I said quickly, too embarrassed to look at him, and hurried to the bathroom.

I glanced down at my phone.

Of course it was Allison.

"Well, hello there. It sure took you a mighty long time to answer my call. What were you doing?" She spoke immediately, not even giving me the chance to say hello.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." I sighed.

"Try me. Does it involve boys?"

"Yes."

"It better not be. You're not grown. If it ain't BTS trying to become ya baby daddy, you better not be doing shit."

"I mean, you've got part of it right."

"Some guy is trying to knock you up? IF I HAVE TO MAKE MY WAY TO KOREA AND BEAT SOME ASS, I WILL."

"Um, no. Not the becoming my baby's father part, but, uh, the BTS part." I spoke slowly, waiting for her to explode.

"I don't understand."

"When you called me, I was in the middle of a conversation with RM." I pulled the phone away from my ear expecting her to scream.

Instead, she laughed. "Yeah, right, bitch. If you are, tell him to tell my baby daddy Yoongi I said call me." I rolled my eyes. She was so vulgar.

It was clear she didn't believe me. I honestly wouldn't believe me, either.

I frowned at my phone. "Well, okay. I was in the middle of a conversation with someone, though, so I'll call you later."

"I want detaaaaaiiiiiils."

"I mean, I just tried to tell you, but okay. Bye." I hung up and stared at myself in the mirror.

Couldn't I just stay in the bathroom and wait for him to leave?

I shook my head. No, that'd be rude.

I took a deep breath, and counted to three, before pushing out of the bathroom and making my way back to my table.

"I apologize. It was my friend."

I saw his lips twitch as he studied me.

"What?" I asked as I sipped my lukewarm hot chocolate.

"You know who I am." It wasn't a question. I nodded anyway. "You know who I am and you listen to my music, but you haven't said anything about it."

I only shrugged. "We were talking about books."

He suddenly started laughing uncontrollably it seemed.

I stared at him as he did, studying every feature of his closely, as if I'd never seen him before, but want to memorize him as much as I could.

As suddenly as he started, he stopped, and we were left staring at each other.

I was never one to be good at keeping eye contact, but I couldn't look away.

"You know, I don't think you told me your name." He said.

"It's Rosalinia." I picked at the sleeves of my sweater. "However, friends just call me Rosie."

"That's a lovely name. Unique, too." He paused for a second, thinking. "Rosie?"

"Yes?"

"You're a very interesting person and I would love to take you out sometime." His cheeks tinged red and I wanted to cry at how cute he suddenly looked when just moments ago, he was calm and confident.

"I'd like that very much. Thank you for asking me." I couldn't help the grin that slid onto my face.

We smiled at each other for another minute or so, until his phone rang and he hurriedly left, quickly saying goodbye before speeding out of the door.

The smile stayed on my face for a while after he left and I couldn't even concentrate on my book.

It was after I had paid and left the cafe that the grin slid off as I realized something:

We didn't get each other's number.

We had absolutely no way to contact each other.

I sighed out of frustration and disbelief.

Of course.

Nothing good could ever last long for me.
