Prologue
It was September and the beginning of their Fall Tour. For the next five weeks, they would be driving from state to state, city to city, performing in front of their adoring fans.
She couldn't wait.
For Rydel Lynch, 20 year old keyboard player and lone female for the slowly-rising band R5, performing was everything.
Ever since she was a small child, she had loved singing and dancing and showing off for her family. She couldn't wait to hit the stage. Now, her dreams were coming true; at least part of them were.
She had originally chosen dance. She found it beautiful how the lyric of a song could influence the most beautifully, graceful flow of movement. She knew that she would be a dancer one day.
So she begged her parents to sign her up for dance lessons, and before long she had worked her way to the top of her class.
The younger girls would sit and stare in awe as Rydel's long graceful figure swept across the stage, her long blonde hair trailing behind her. She always felt so free.
But when her brothers came to her with the hopes of creating a family band, she had turned them down. She had never thought of pursuing music as a career. She only had eyes for dance.
They begged her, for months on end, but she didn't want to let go of the best thing that had ever happened to her. Finally she gave in.
She agreed to one year. One year of gigs, one show of practicing. If it didn't work out, she would quit the band and return to dance. She had to give it a try.
Within months of playing small shows to handfuls of people, the little family band from Colorado had hit something huge.
They would be huge stars.
They would sell out shows.
They would make millions.
They would be together forever.
Or was forever overrated?
