Chapter One

Their daily schedule went like this:

Band rehearsal at 10am, concluding somewhere around 1pm.

Song writing whenever they had the time.

And sold out shows every night.

It was any band's dream, but for pop-rock band R5, it was reality.

They had been together for three years, rocking out with their devoted fans worldwide almost every night.

They were living the dream.

But Rydel's dream was tucked away in a few boxes in their basement. All of her old dance costumes and ballet slippers had been packed away when she agreed to start the band with her brothers, Riker, Rocky and Ross, and their best friend Ellington Ratliff.

"Are you sure you want to do this Sweetie?" her mom Stormie asked her when they were cleaning out her closet, "I'm sure your brothers will understand if you want to keep dancing."

"I promised them mom" Rydel sighed, folding another dress and placing it into the box. "I'll do the band for a year. If it doesn't work out, then I will go back to dance."

"I just know how much you love being on that stage" her mom smiled at her, "You always look so free. So happy."

Rydel smiled at the thought of dancing; nothing holding her back from moving with emotion to the gentle melody of a piano solo. It was the most beautiful thing in the world.

"I am happy dancing. But music makes the boys happy, so I'm going to give it a shot. For them."

Her mom leaned in and kissed her forehead. "You're such a good big sister Rydel. I am so proud of you."

Rydel smiled at her mom. She wished she could be proud of herself, but every inch of her wanted to tell the boys she wouldn't be joining the band, that she loved dance too much.

It's only a year, she told herself, it's not going to get serious that fast. This time next year I will be unpacking these boxes and putting them back in my closet.

But still, after three years, the boxes sat collecting dust in the basement of their Los Angeles home, never reopened. For R5 was a worldwide success, and Rydel would never dance again.
